I have a small 8'0" x 12'0" basement workshop loaded with Festool equipment.I own a CT36 dust collector and a TS55 saw along with an MFT/3.
I've just ordered my Kapex and a CT48. I want to use the 48 exclusively for the Kapex and for shop clean up. I don't want to be filling up bags, so I opted for the Oneida Ultimate Dust Deputy.
I bought the workshop cleaning kit with the 36mm st.st. barrels and AS hose and assembled the Dust deputy and mounted it, temporarily, on my CT36.
WOW ! I am so impressed! It appears that the unit deadens some of the vacuum noise so my perception is one of a quieter process and there is no discernible loss of cfms or pickup power.
I'm really sorry that I waited so long to buy this accessory, as I can't imagine life without it now.
Well done Oneida for a great product and reasonable price.

I have the CT 26 and ordered the UDD and it certainly is a plus with the Festool dust extractors. But my main reason for ordering it was when I contracted the flu around Christmas time and then on top of that I got bronchitis. At the time I was using the TS 55 and sheeting in my new woodworking shop. During this bout of sickness I ordered the UDD and I also ordered the complete boom arm assembly. The idea here is that the majority of the dust is separated before it reached the 26. The HEPA filter, hopefully will take care of the rest. And by the way, the boom arm assembly is a fantastic addition to the dust extractor.

Regards,
Dan

Oops,

I put that image on the forum using my Ipad as it had the picture. Whatever it is with Ipads and Iphones, whenever you take a picture and email it to someone or do as I just did, it displays it 90 degreed to the right or left. And I have never researched how to correct this.

Apple is a little to the left.

It's a California thing.  [big grin]

Probabely NO because the UDD is based on a Classic Systainer way of attaching to vacuums.
And T-Loc's are only compatible with Classic Systainers if they are ON TOP.

I wish they'd make the collection bins clear.  It'd be nice to see when your bag is about to fill up.

I had one, sold it, then bought another one.  Still haven't decided if I am going to use it or now.  I hate how unwieldy it makes the setup, but it does save on those bags.

Nuggy you could quite easily cut some sort of sight glass into the side or top of the dust deputy

Quite happy with my Oneida/shop vac rig. Just used it for drywall texture removal sanding and captured several gallons of dust off the random orbital into the cyclone bucket and less than a cups worth get through to the shopvac that has a hepa. It aint pretty but it works well, floor and air is pretty clean. Thankfully I have no one to impress but myself. It's all bungeed to a furniture dolly so I can pull it around behind me.

I have just cleaned out my ac36 and udd after using the planex to sand drywall as well.  There was 50 pounds of drywall dust in the udd, and only five pounds of dust in the vac.  That's an amazing result IMO.

I could, but I don't trust myself to keep it airtight and for $200 for what is largely the same thing as the "regular" dust deputy, I would have liked a bit more.  And considering how often people end up overflowing their cyclone bins and subsequently packing their cyclone and filters full of dust, I'm surprised it's not a more common feature.

I considered buying some plexiglas and just making my own dust bin with a regular DD.  I've just run out of energy building contraptions for the shop - I don't have enough time as it without all those distractions.

I have a feeling the plexi glass would build up static and the view port would become fogged with dust. I work with PVC trim a lot and that stuff is staticky. If it worked, I'd be one to do it.  When I periodically lift the lid to have a peak, the dust goes airborne and makes a mess. I can very well tell by now after feeling the weight of the udd wether its time to replace the bag or check to see if its full.

Yea static is bad !

Regardless of what setup you use make sure the cyclone is well grounded or you might be buying a new motor controller for your dust extractor like I am.  An ungrounded UDD will take a motor controller out !

Oneida is aware of the issue and has a fix for it although its Mickey Mouse in my opinion.

My module was fried while I wasn't using the udd.  So it does happen regardless if you use the udd or not.  I'm glad it happened that way because I would have wrongly  blamed the udd.

I took my chances with my Rigid sander and in spite of all the sparks I feel in my hands it's been going strong.  [embarassed]  I figured if I'm going to fry something make it the less expensive tool but it keeps going [big grin]

Good to know !

I think I read that somewhere Festool has a ground in the hose connector on front of extractor but mine doesnt.  Anyone know if this is something new.

I have never had static issues until the UDD but I have never used it for sanding either.

I have no doubt it was the UDD in this case.

I have the CT26 that I recently attached a Deluxe DD to.  Mine is used primarily for sanding.  I recently noticed static shocks when my hand contacts the hose.  The Deluxe came with a strip of metallic tape that is supposed to run from one of the bolts in the bucket top, up the cyclone and to both intake and exhaust ports.  According to the literature that came with the DDD, the plastic is supposed to conduct the static and this supposedly resolves the static buildup issue.  That theory is not proving to be true.

At what point on the CT could a ground be attached?  Or would it be better to just run a conductor from the Festool hose to a ground source?

I have my wire on my CT22 ran in next to where the hose connects. There is a gap and extra room.  Inside the CT there is a bus that has the L1, neutral and ground on it. I connected there.

I will say grounding the inlet and outlet and all that stuff they recommend did nothing for me until I ran it to ground. Actually I think it made it worse. As soon as I grounded it then it was better.

I do feel some static in my hose but it dissipates when it gets to the ground at the CT. Thats all I care about.
