Oneida Ultimate DUST deputy 151175

Has anyone tried one of these steel versions yet? I'd love to get a DD but am very worried about the static issue

Still using my UDD like crazy without anything like metal tapes or wires.  Used the planex for weeks a couple months ago
which is a heck of a dust producer.  The udd fills and there's hardly anything in the vac, amazing!

I have an original DD, which was a steel cyclone mounted to a steel barrel, much like the one in the second link posted above.  Works great, and it never occurred to me that static could be a problem until I started reading the threads here about the plastic ones.

I had the plastic version of the Oneida UDD on my CT22 until I read about the static discharge potential problems, so I contacted Oneida and they sent me an upgrade kit (free of charge) and it looks cleaner than the original setup.

I use this CT22/UDD system everyday and have had no static issues.

I have two of the steel versions and have no issue with static using my Fein vacs.

. My upgrade kit is on its way from Oneida.
I only feel a bit of hair raising at the box when my arm is next to it, so the new Cyclone from them will hopefully make my set-up even better.  I've never felt any real shocks when I use my UDD, no matter what vacuum/ CT I'm using.

7/11-14 Update- Installed the kit from Oneida.  Added a few notes at talkFestool on the subject. so far, so good.
Since I'm already using a Boom Arm 50mm AS hose to run between the out of the cyclone down to the CT, I elected not to use the hose that Oneida sent .  One interesting note. The taper on the inlet of the Cyclone fits a stock Festool 36mm hose much better than the early models did.  My very early production UDD need a tiny amount cut off the inlet pipe to allow a 36mm hose to tightly fit on. Otherwise, it bottomed out and was barely on, unlike the slightly different hose end of the smaller 27mm AS hose.
This time around, no mods needed for either hose.  I miss the translucent plastic of the previous cyclone, but it's a small thing.... [big grin]

I'm glad your getting the kit from Oneida.  Since I've instilled it I haven't even felt any hair raising or anything.  I really like the fact that I can easily empty the bag from the Oneida box and get back to work in minutes.

When the static problems were first discussed on FOG and there was mention of a retrofit kit from Oneida for the UDD I contacted Oneida and they quickly shipped me the kit.  At that time the kit didn't include a new cyclone; instead it just included additional metallic tape.  After reading about the improved kit with a cyclone made out of black, conductive plastic I contacted Oneida asking if they could just send me the additional new parts in the 2nd generation retrofit kit.  Instead, they sent me an entire new kit.  I've installed the additional new parts on my UDD and not only is it a cleaner installation with the black hose between the cyclone and the CT and the black plastic cyclone but I'm not experiencing any static buildup when using the vac.

Seems that Oneida has really addressed the static issue and has shown themselves to be a quality company with excellent customer service.

Jay,

I'm glad you received the same excellent treatment from Oneida that I did and I have not experienced any static issues since and I use my system every day.

Sure is nice to only have to snap the top off the collection box and empty the contents in my garden or trash depending on the work I'm doing at the time and get right back to work without bag replacement.  I opened my CT22 and looked inside and the bag and HEPA filter were clean after using the UDD for over a year.

Thanks Jack.

It is great to almost never replace the Festool bags and filters.

My only wish is that the UDD design didn't make you give up having a Systainer on top of your vac.  I realize you could put one Inbetween the UDD and the vac but then you loose the ability to quickly get inside the Systainer.

That's why I opted for a Sortainer under my UDD. It's my first aid kit.

Doesn't that put your cyclone and hose a bit high? Or are you using a boom arm?

Jay,

After I acquired 3 stacks of Systainers I don't worry about using my CT22 any longer as all of my Systainers are on wheels on carts or Sysports.  I really need to build a wall cabinet with pull out shelves for my Systainers.
