Or i should say "yellow tool" to spoil the buch.

What a mess! I did three of these and vacuumed between after applying the vaneer to each side.

I really need the MFK for smaller routing tasks. Sadly its way at the bottom of the needs list.

I'm about to get into routing and I just got this in the mail a couple days ago. Also ordered a Tanos sys 3 (should have gotten the 4!) With the dust extraction kit. Bought some Bosch router bits today too. I'm really excited about my little setup.

I just got the Makita trim router.  I have no doubt the Festool would be much nicer, but didn't have the funds ...

I would definitely prefer the MFK but since I'm completely new to routing it didn't seem prudent to go with a high dollar Festool right off the bat. Instead I used the saved funds to buy the RO 125 which I will use all the time.

Don't assume you'll end up owning one router. Still plenty of opportunity to buy Festool routers. I have the 1010 which is amazing.  Don't try and use that trim router for heavy duty routing. It's a trim router.

I never hook the hose up to my of1400.  My jointer dumps chips on the ground, my tenoner can make a two foot tall pile of fluffy chips in minutes, the chain mortiser will throw chips 20 feet.

Some things just aren't worth the fuss of dc.

Not sure who you are referencing..

I have a 1400 but its mounted into my CMS table. I cant be bothered to remove it unless i have no other option.

Like all these stinking green tools i will surely end up with most all of them in due time..

As for dust i will go to great lengths and make huge compromises to avoid it. One of the things i hate most about being a tradesman is huffing dust and toxic chemicals along with being and feeling dirty all the dam time.

If I'm not getting paid and at home having fun i sure as hell want as little dust as possible.

I like the fact that all I need are work clothes, no need to clean up and put on good clothes.

I have two kinds of clothes, funeral and wedding clothes and clothes that used to be funeral and wedding clothes.

Hell, I have been wearing the same long underwear, jeans and two shirts all week.  Although tonight was shower night.

Oh I don't assume I'll get by with the Colt plunge router for forever. Eventually I'll pick up the 1010 for heavier duty jobs but that will have to be months down the road after I get the hang of routing and come across projects that need a heavier duty router.

If its in my closet than its fair game as work clothes. Well other  than my court clothes that is.

Lucky for me my court clothes have progressed to funeral clothes. Not so lucky for those in need of a visit..

I could never do the shower thing intermittently. After a long day demoing god knows what ripping up old cinder block drywall or mixing thin set i gotta have a shower. Now with two dogs one 70lbs and the other 95 that sleep with me even more so. I have been on the shower first thing and as soon as I get home routine for as long as i have worked.

This is the ultimate trim router OFK 500, alas it's NAINA.
Don't know why Festool doesn't carry this little gem in the USA?
The router bits are only made by Festool and are expensive but who cares, it's a joy to use this router.
And probably the smallest in the market.

I have three Festool routers (2200,1400, 1010) as well as the Dewalt trim router and love them all.

What you need to get is the dust collection attachment.  It's not really a fair comparison otherwise.

Joe can you do me a favour? Can you tell me the weight of the router in the setup as shown on the picture in your post?
I've been trying to find the weight on the web...with no luck. Could only find the weight of the entire set.

I'm going to buy a one hand router. Either a Bosch Colt, Dewalt dwp611 or the similar Makita.

I'm leaning heavily towards the Dewalt because of the LED light. (Although I've read that it's screaming noisy and a bit top heavy...don't know if that's true)

Kind regards
Henrik

Darcy, no doubt you have about a three yard bucket loader to cleanup your shop with [poke] [poke]

Joe, will that fit a Festool hose without an adapter and if so which size hose? Thanks! Chris
I'm not Joe but I can answer this question. This fits the 27mm hose (I have a Midi and this router). However the 27mm O.D. is a bit too large to fit all the way down so you need to modify the dust attachment. You need to cut off the outer ring with a Dremel tool or some other cut off tool. The whole thing is plastic and cuts off very easily and it's less than $9.00 on Amazon if you mess it up (but you can't). I have this one and one for the plunge attachment. Works very well and it's a great router.

Henrick - here are some reviews from routing guru Pat Warner.

DW611 http://www.patwarner.com/dw611.html

Makita http://www.patwarner.com/makita_rt0701c.html

Bosch colt http://www.patwarner.com/pr20_subbase.html

the review on the 611 says it weighs 4.25 pounds, so probably less than 2 kilos with the dust hood.

Ron

Thank you very much Ron!  [smile]

I'll dig into those reviews before I decide which one to buy.

(If only Festool made a similar one hand router I'd buy it immediately without looking at the price tag. The OFK500 and 700 are not quite as versatile)

Kind regards
Henrik

My kitchen scale has the Dewalt at 2.22 kg with fixed base & dust collector and 3.16 kg with the plunge base & dust collector.
