Opening the case on a damaged C12 drill

I need to open the case on my damaged C12, but I am finding it surprisingly hard to do!  Kudos to Festool, they've stumped an experienced electical engineer.  (I feel like an idiot.)  I removed the black screws from the side of the drill, but couldn't open the case.  Then, I thought the metal clip on the front of the handle between the two magnetic bit holders might be clamping the two sides of the drill together, but I couldn't lever off the metal clip.

I must say, these things are built nicely, but I need to open it up and would appreciate any advice!

Once you've undone all the screws, the two halfs of the shell should come off uninhibited.

The magnetic plate on front is clamped between the two halfs and doesn't hold them together.

There is a label on top that you need to cut. And then I'd take a broad chissel and gently try to pry it between the two halfs to get them open. Emphasis on gently.

This. Possibly you overlooked one (which might hide beneath a label on the side)?

what I would do is, take the drill, lie it on its side. Place it in the systainer for safety. Close the lid on the sustainer. Wake over to the phone, call festool service take the sustainer wrap it put a address on it and send it to festool service.

It will save you a ton of butt hurt

Alex and Gregor, thank you very much, I've got it open.  It is a very nicely made shell, and fits together well.

Quite possibly it will save my rear end from hurting, but the screaming pain from my wallet will be unabated.  Festool sent the C12 back to me after I declined a repair quote that I thought was excessive.
