Oscillating mortising machine

Just came across this. I like that you just need the chassis and can use spindle of your choice (cordless if you want) with bit size of your choice.

The video has a description that "not as slick, but at 1/10 the cost". At least he's not selling plans or kits, as I think Festool's lawyers might have something to say about that...

Even without that specialized piece, I struggle to believe that the oscillator motor, router, and rest of the setup would run less than $110 USD.

And no dust extraction?  [eek]

Interesting indeed, I would wonder where that would go. It is just an oscillating mechanism, not a full machine as you can add any motor you like. And Festool surely didn't invent the oscillating mechanism.
 
Festool did not invent the concept of oscillating mortising machine. They were around for a long time.

Fair enough.  I suppose Festool's patent is more about the oscillating motion taking place at the head instead of the entire machine.  I tried reading through the google translate version of the german patent, but have other things I need to get done.
 
But...he forgot to make overlapping passes to make wide mortises (to allow for movement), given that his machine doesn't have the wide/widest mortise width settings! [tongue] [big grin]
