Went to Roanoke Woodcraft to buy my CT36.  Like to actually pick up large items myself.  Maybe avoid shipping damage.  Asked about the Kapex/MFT3 Jr.  combination - PT 3K56 1287  jumps out of my notes (admittedly old and from this site) is no longer listed says they.  Does anyone know if that's true ?  It is one of two company stores so ......

On the same turnpike,  I guess I would rather spend my money with the dealers here who are so helpful.  You know..... actual owners of a business.  So riddle me this:  Do you trust the packing on the Kapex to resist what UPS does so well?    Or since I have a son in NJ whom I visit from time-to-time should I go ahead and wait until I can go pick one up there?  The other stuff seems small enuff to ship without my fretting about it but the KAPEX ?

Oh, BTW...    Festool & its dealers simply have it all wrong.  It's not pronounced like superman  as in cape X.  It's pronounced cap  X.  As in capital expenditure.  Think I'm wrong?????    So after you bought yours what had happened to your capital?  It was xxxxx-ed, that's what it was!  It was definitely a capital expenditure.    What is the matter with folks who invent stuff and then think they have the right to name/pronounce it as they choose ?    What's up with that ?

Sounds like you're probably hanging out for the new Festool BUDGEX and ACCRUEX tools. The BUDGEX saves you a lot on your next job ... the ACCRUEX will cost you more up front, but saves you progressively over the next 24 months of work.

I won't comment on the expense of the tools, many people have many different (usually strong) viewpoints on that part.

As far as the kapex/MFT combo goes they are still available.  I don't have the part number in front of me as I am out of the office.  But it may have changed recently.

I don't think you should worry too much about shipping.  if you think about it, it gets shipped to the dealer at some point and theres usually never a problem.  If you were to order on and have a problem, any good dealer would have you send the busted one back and replace it immediately.

If you visit your son in NJ, and want to play with some of the products you are more than welcome to stop by our showroom on rt. 17.  We try to have all the major tools and accessories in stock for people to check out and play with.

Yes, I think you're wrong!  ;)

The Kapex designation has nothing to do with "Capital Expenditure." The Kap in Kapex comes from the German "Kapp-Zugsäge" which is actually pronounced more like a short "carp" or "cup." So if you wanted to be phonetically correct, it should really be pronounced cup-ex

I thought this was the Cup ex?

I bought my Kapex from Bob Marino and it traveled via UPS from New Jersey to Texas with no damage.

It was actually double boxed but I don't know if that's something Bob does or if it comes from Festool that way.

I would not worry too much about it -- it is also packaged well with thick styrofoam and banding around the box to help keep it in tact.  If you are on the fence with it and want to try it out under the 30 days then it sometimes makes sense to buy locally so it is easier to return as you would have to pay shipping if bought online...of course, it is doubtful that you would want to return it after your first cut, just saying...

I got mine locally felt similar to the way you felt about a large item being shipped. However prior to the kapex I ordered a Bosch miter saw online and it arrived with the box wrecked and a cracked handle. So that sort of influenced my thinking of wanting to pick it up.

Not to spoil your party, but since Kapex is a German word it is pronounced what we call over here a "long a" and sounds just like the last a in the word "America".  [wink] Take off the Ameri and add the pex and you got the right prononciation. You're still right about the capital expenditure though, no argument there.

My pre-production Cape-Ex was shipped directly from Germany (if memory serves me) in its off-the-shelf display box, and there was no damage to any of the shipping foam or box. The color was well worn off the box, so it was handled quite a bit on its long, long journey, but it arrived unscathed.  [smile]

The first time I heard the name "Kapex" it was at the factory in Germany, and pronounced by several people, including Christian, as Cape-ex. So a similar question would be, how do you pronounce Ferdinand Porsche's name?  [scared]  [big grin] [big grin]

Hehehe, As I'm sure you already know, I have been doing some design work on another super car that can eat one of them Fer-da-man Porch's for breakfast. So he is not quite "da-man" at the moment.  [big grin]
