Parallel Guide: Do I need to Calibrate Each Time?

Sorry, I haven't been able to find an answer to this.  Once I calibrate my parallel guides for my track, do I need to recalibrate every time I put them back on?  I'm joining to 55" tracks -- do I need to make sure I have them in the same orientation each time?

Ston - while you posed a generic question I can speak with authority on the TSO Parallel Guide.

Start by "testing" with a trial run of material you could discard in the event of an unsatisfactory result.

When using the TSO Parallel Guide System you can expect that none of the Parallel Guide systems will contribute to a variance.

Between removal and re-installation on the same pair of guide rails you can expect the same position after the guide rails are re-connected in the same relative position as previously calibrated.

You may want to experiment by reversing the relative position of the guide rail pair to see if that makes any difference in your particular pair of guide rails. It may not matter.

If you are using other brands of parallel guides employing individual track sections end-to-end you may want to pay particular attention to the attachment security of t-track and adapter components.

Some of these other brands connect the T-track components by "clamping" rather than fastening with threaded connections. A little bit of unnoticed connection slippage has brought unwelcome results for some folks.

I’ve never thought to ask that question—I probably should have a couple of years ago. I only calibrated them once.  I have never noticed any variance.

I think a different blade on the saw would create a larger variance than remounting the parallel guides.

For TSO PG. I cant speak for other brands.

what Packard said about blade thickness and, that white strip on the rail, if it moves or is worn from using different blades from when you first calibrated the PGs that will throw your measurement off a tad.

also Using different rails will throw the accuracy off  the white strip has been cut differently all are not the same so check prior to using

So as a force of habit. I always check to be sure the measurements and the calibration of PGs are correct prior to cutting.

The same way I would check my fence on my table saw for accuracy prior to cutting.
