I recently picked up the parallel guide to use with the TS55, this is the one that attaches to the saw not the parallel guides that attach to the track.  I used it for the first time today and the saw was getting hung up once I got into the cut and I couldn't figure out why.  I thought the hose was snagging but it wasn't.  Turns out the piece of black plastic, highlighted in the attachment, was sticking out just enough to catch the workpiece. It was sticking out on the trailing side but I couldn't find a picture of that edge so I'm using the leading edge to show what I'm referring to. Took out a utility knife and trimmed the black plastic until it was flush and now it works fine.  Just passing along the info in case someone else runs into this.

I've been eye-ing one of these  [eek] I wish somebody would do a picture essay on some uses. I can see that it is quick to deploy (probably right out of the saw's systainer?) -

It comes with two knobs to hold the guide in place, the knobs can be left on your saw, don't need to re-attach them with each use. I tightened mine down when the guide is off, just so they don't vibrate loose.  The bar can be used off the right or left side.  I used mine to cut uniform widths of plywood, to make some shop drawers.  Worked well.  Until I get around to buying the parallel guides, this seemed like a reasonable alternative to achieving uniform narrow cuts.  Ideally, I'd prefer to always have the saw ride the guide rail.

You can use it on either side fo the saw as Steve pointed out and you can use it two ways on either side of the saw.

One way, it can reference off the edge of the work piece.

The other way, it can reference of a wall or something perpendicular to the work piece.

It also has a nice long reference edge, not like most that come with saws.

I finally used mine for this purpose to reference off the edge of the board.  This worked beautifully as I was ripping strips to 3/4" wide.

Thanks Steve CO for the advice on cutting back the black plastic ends.

It's also a very nice counter weight when you tilt the saw to cut an angle. It stops the saw from falling over.
