Parapan??

Anyone worked with parapan before. It is essentially high gloss acrylic panels that come in either 18mm or 4mm sheets. Just hoping someone can provide any tips on cutting, working, gluing, and repolishing (rotex or shinex). Thanks as always

Like most plastics, after acrylic is cut to size, (tablesaw/handsaw/router/whatever) it needs to have it's edges polished. One method that I don't like is flame polishing which changes the edge consistency of the acrylic. The other standard method is a time consuming process consisting of several increasingly fine grits of sandpaper, a polishing wheel and polishing compound. I take a shortcut which drastically reduces the time needed to polish the edges.

Cut to size, smooth the edges with a card scraper, polish the edges with a polishing wheel. (no polishing compound needed) That's it! I used this process to polish the edges on 7 each, 3/8" thick acrylic stereo cabinet shelves and a pair of 36" high doors covering them. Average time to polish an edge? About ten minutes for a three foot edge. That's my tip for your Parapan.

Not that this will help you in the finishing it your self mode but if you know your dimensions, at least for doors and drawer covers, and you order Parapan from Richelieu, they will profile the edge, drill it and finish for you.
Not sure of the cost.
Just a thought.

Thanks for the responses. I am ordering from Richilieu. I was just looking for any helful tips (thanks upscale). I have a few jobs for a client and of course due to the cost of parapan (starting at $60 a sq ft) was just probing to see who has worked with it before. Maybe I will post some pics of the finished projects.  Thanks again

Let us know how this works out. I am very curious as to how good the service from Richelieu is for this kind of thing. I have had good luck with them (ordering from their online catalog (impressive) so far but have not asked them for a "custom" or made to order product such as this.
I wish McFaddens had as good a site for ordering products as Richelieu does.

I will post some pics of the finished projects.  Thanks again

I ordered custom cabinet doors from Richelieu during the summer.  It was a disaster. I wont do it again. They took 4 times longer to deliver, then they promised, and 90% of the doors were the wrong size, groups of three drawer fronts that all should have matched weren't even the same width, I had to cut and respray them.  Richelieu's only answer for me was that they couldn't do anything for me (ie. compensation) and that it was summer time, so some level of mistakes could be expected, as workers were on vacation.

For custom work, I'll stick to local shops.

I would probably just order sheets and mill and finish them myself or find someone local who does it.

He was talking about the poor service he received for a custom job, work they apparently said they could do. If that poor service translates to other types of work they say they can do, then it would be prudent not have them do it for wood, Parapan or whatever.

Don't quote me on it but I think the parapan is solid through a third party and not manufactured by Richelieu. The down side is you can only buy the 4mm stuff as full sheets and the 18mm has to be custom ordered. I bought 3 4mm sheets we will see how this goes.

Parapan is not the only acrylic on the market i am a distibuter for acrylic in 4mm and 18mm sheets and cut to size acrylic our prices are sooooo rediculously uncomparable to Richeleliu almost half the cost of what parapan is charging and i can negociate prices were they can't you guys need to take a look at our website and see if this tickles your fancy cause i know we are the only company in canada to supply these 44 X 118  18mm Sheets of acrylic and we are located in toronto yeaaaa beat that parapan lol
