part dogs instead of fence kit on MFT3?

Would a set of parf dogs and guide rail be a suitable substitute for the fence system on a MFT/3 for 90 degree crosscuts?  I never used the angle feature on the older MFT1080 system and did not order the MFT/3 system with fence because I mistakenly thought the fences were interchangeable.
