The Festool website does not have a listing (and thus, no description) for the backing plate (hook & loop) for my Festool  150E Plus Sander. The back of the plate bears this ID:  PA 66 GF 30.

What have I got here? (to be used for final polishing a car with foam pads)

Also, was the R0 150+ a one-speed machine?

The Rotex RO 150 E uses the exact same pads as the ETS 150. So, use our website to find pads compatible with the ETS 150 and they will work with your sander. I don't know the pads based on the ID you gave. If you're using it for polishing, then you presumably have the polishing pad with no holes in it which is slightly undersized. Edit: Hmm, I don't see a polishing pad for it on the website or in the catalog but I could have sworn we have one. Can you tell us the color of the plastic on the pad?

Without running down to my shop to look at mine, which I admittedly haven't used since I have a Rotex RO 150 FEQ, I'm quite sure it has a variable speed dial.

Polishing pad for RO-150E was black one (type STF 150/M8-P) Part number 485748.

The pad is black. Rather stiff foam. 8 DC holes. Exactly 150mm (6" ±). Here's my intention. I want to do a fine polish on a new paint job. Everything soft. If I could see the product description of what I am holding in my hand I would know if it will do the job, or if I have to buy a new backing pad that is softer.

Did Festool change the P/N numbering in the last 7 years? The lettering on my pad is just as I entered, starting with "PA 66...". The Festool website no longer carries user guides or parts descriptions for model this old.

Thanks for your time. I sent a customer service enquiry to the Festool Head Shed in Indiana. Or is that you?

Maybe it would be best if you call and speak to someone about your application to get the best recommendation.

If by polishing you mean that you want to use a sponge or sheepskin, then you should use the polishing pad.

The part numbers on all of our 6" pads, with the exception of the polishing pads, changed about 2 years ago when we introduced Multi-Jetstream. I have nothing that cross references the "PA 66" number that you're providing and I don't have all of the pads readily available at the moment.

If you're just looking for the manual, here's a link: http://www.festoolusa.com/media/pdf/tm_464262_002_ro_150_usa.pdf

What and see what the application guys have to say about your email inquiry.

Going to my local Festool dealer right now. Thanks for the documentation. Where does the average guy find that stuff?

Admittedly I've not done a good job of providing as easy way to access info for discontinued tools on the website. But I'm working on updates to the site that will fix that in the future. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I learned some interesting things this morning at my nearest dealer. Anderson Plywood in Culver City, Los Angeles.
Looking at the 'backing pad' on a new ETS -150, the pad does not bear a standard Festool P/N. Instead, it has a number close to what I have on my older sander, starting with PA 66.

Even so, the pad on my older RO 150 E+ is a medium foam-backed pad nearly identical to the replacement. OK for polishing and light sanding. The fellow at Anderson told me a few things about my sander, and Xeroxed pages from the Festool 2005 catalog pertinent to my machine. The accessories offered then have the same P/Ns as current accessories to the ETS-150. No difference.

He told me that his customers often ask if he has the older model sander available, either new or used. Of course he doesn't. Even though it has a 500w motor as opposed to the current 800w model, his customers like the balance and handling of the old one. Go figure! Weight seems about the same, although mine is considerably taller.

The user document you provided in .pdf format says that for polishing, speed 6 is desirable. That seems odd to me. I always polished and buffed out cars at lower speeds, and assumed that was standard industry practice. So, in all, I am back on track and happy with my machine as it is. With the addition of a sheepskin buffer pad.
