I am glad this one is over.  This was an existing structure that I was certain was not completely worthless and I could do something with.

turned out all the posts were about 18" in the ground and I could pull them up and push them down.

Had to add 8 footings and 2 new beams.  Hit a Geothermal line that was only down 32" [blink]

During this project I also blew a head gasket on the 454 [sad]

Very nice. I followed this project at CT. Interesting to say the least.

Call the police before that crowd turns unruly !!!  [big grin]

Lovely deck but those curved railings, wow !  How much do they cost each ?
What are the metal things (looks kinda like mini cow bells) that are at the top of the newel posts ?  Would be cool if they were lights.

They are lights. They look to be Dekor Millennium Tear Drops.

I cut the arches in the 2x6 for the top.

The balusters were 6 bucks each.

Yes, those are lights on the posts.

totally worth hitting the geothermal and blowing a head gasket, somebody had to do it right?

Were you there for 3-4 weeks?

Lights?

Love to see a night shot with them on!  [smile]

Did yo conceal the wires in the posts?

Yeah, from start to finish was just under 4 weeks.

I started laying the deck boards on may 16th.

I am going back for more pictures.  I want to get some at dusk after I turn the post lights on.

I routed a groove in the outside of the post, mounted the light bracket and then drilled a hole through the posts.

I put a thin strip of Ipe over the wire grooves.

The wood is beautiful but those balusters are stunning.  Nice job

Are those Dekorators balusters?  I know they were one of the earlier brands but I think others have started manufacturing as well!

Nice I like it! Them curved metal spindles look good.  It all looks very nice!

Is it just the angle of the pictures  or do the boards not run into the centre the same from each section.  Some look like the joint runs into the middle and other do not.

Yeah, they are the baroque balusters by Deckorators.

No, they do not line up perfectly. The existing structure was almost
2" out of square. I tried to start each section on the corners but the deck grows and
that throws things off somewhat.

Sorry Darcy!  I meant to say the deck looks awesome!  Love the curved upper rail sections!!!  And yes, the balusters are a very classy touch!
