PDC started smoking

An odd thing happened the other day - I grabbed the PDC just to mix some paint in a five gallon bucket. Used the Jacob's chuck with a basic paint-stirring attachment. After a couple seconds, a bit of smoke started coming out of the housing.

I've never had a brushless motor smoke. Is that normal?

I put it away for the day and picked it up the next day. Worked fine.

Should I send it off to Festool still or wait until it smokes again? Super strange behavior isn't it?

No it is not normal. Power tools run on smoke.
If all of it escapes they lose their powers. You did good by stopping, saving the rest of the smoke.

On a serious note, if is inside the 3 year warranty, I would send to Festool. No questions there.

If outside warranty, you may want to check if some drop of paint did not get inside - that could explaing smoke escaping and next day - when the paint would have stuck - the tool again working as had "its own" smoke still inside. ;)

BTW, I would not use the PDC for paint mixing - beyond some small work. The drill is not that strong and it is easy to overload it in that task.
