PDF Converter & Screen Capture Software.

Assuming you are on Windows:
  • For free PDF creation maybe Open Office.
  • To capture only the active window, Alt-Print Screen.

Combining the two, you would set up whatever you needed as a PDF in a window, use Alt-Print Screen to capture that window to the clipboard, then open a document, paste in the screen capture, and export the document as a PDF file.

Which platform?  And what do you want to convert PDF to?

For screen captures, on a Mac you already have Grab.  On Windows, I like MWSnap.

For anything PDF on Windows, I use Foxit Software products.  Fast, small, work very well.  First thing I install on a re-paved Windows box is FoxIt Reader (although you'll notice that when Adobe updates "Flash" for you, it also tries to change the file associations for PDF back to its bloatware Reader).

If they don't have what you are looking for, more info on the conversions you are looking for would help.

Screen Capture = PicPick

If you have Windows 7, it has a built in screen capture program called the "Snipping Tool". But I haven't tried it.

PDF Converter = PrimoPDF

Oh, and these are for Windows. [big grin] And, FoxIt stuff is pretty good. Haven't tried their PDF creator, if they have one.

What is a good low cost PDF converter software?
I will not use it a lot, so I do not want to put a lot of money into something like Adobe.

Also, I have 2 monitors connected to my computer.
When I used 1 monitor & wanted to capture what was on the screen, I used the print screen key. It worked fine.

With 2 monitors, the print screen key captures both screens.
What software do I need to be able to capture just one screen?

Sorry, I forgot to mention I am using Windows 7 64 bit.

For screen captures, you can use Grab

COST: FREE

For converting to PDF, simply print the image or document, and when the printer popup appears, select "Save As PDF"

COST: FREE

MacBook Air running OS X to get the above for free? $1000  [cool]

To past the cost, put it in a systainer, and convince yourself it's part of a system....

Gadwin Print screen is free for screen capture.

I have found PDF Converter Professional V7 and earlier version very good. It was about $50 but allows me to do most of what full Adobe will do.

When I pick print I can choose PDF converter and just print it to a PDF document... it does much more.

worth a look at least.

Cheers,
Steve

For screen capture check out Evernote, it will clip screen shots you can paste into other stuff but it does way more in terms of corralling all types of stuff you may want to save for future reference. There is a free version that does most of it, for $40/year you get all the features.

Everything you save is stored on web servers the cloud, so you can share it amongst multiple computers or log in from a public machine and retrieve it. I can save a screen shot with one click, also grab a web page in it's entirety, an image or text from a web page, an email with attachments, any documents, etc. there is a windows version and a web-based version you can use one or both. There are also apps for iPhone and Android that sync with all this, you can snap a photo on your phone that syncs directly to the cloud, make a text note or even record a voice note. One click and it heads to the web and then syncs with your computer automatically.

The other great thing is you can type in keywords and it will find them in any of this information later, even text inside a PDF or in the text of a photo or screen shot. I take pictures of pages of text, and their servers OCR the text and make it searchable. It really is pretty amazing, I use it to keep just about everything I think I may want to recall at a later time.
