Hi Phil,

This seems to be timed well as I just bought the Planex + Dust Extractor and it should make it to my house in the next few days.

I have some popcorn ceilings, but mostly ceilings with a shallow swirl texture. They have all been painted before.  The house is plaster, not sheet rock.  What sandpaper & grit (brilliant, granat?) and what machine settings (sander speed, suction level) do you recommend to take these finishes down? I imagine they will have to be skim coated afterwards and then finish sanded, in which case I'm sure there must be a best sandpaper grit & settings for that as well.

This is my first foray into festool and looking forward to dive into it (especially since there are 1800 sq/ft of ceilings to do).

How does the new planex compare to the old one that comes in sections?
What are the main differences between the two?
Is the new one similar to old planes in the same way the new kapex 60 is to the 120?

Hi.......and welcome to the forum
The main differences are as follows
Planex easy - 4kg in weight so lighter, 1.6m long (no extensions), supplied in bag so no Maxi systainers to carry, you can place the carry bag down and in 60 seconds be using it, can use the harness if needed - and as its name suggests is Easy and simple.

Classic Planex - ideal for higher ceilings due to extensions, controllable suction to aid reduce the weight, will take the full harness set up and with the Systainers fits the system approach

Both have 225 abrasives and EC-TEC motors that give direct drive to the pad. Of course both need to be used with AC extraction....if you need more or I have left anything off let me know  [smile]

....and to add both have excellent extraction  [eek]....

Hi and welcome, good to see another first poster on the FOG  [smile]...keep it going
Difficult to say as each 'surface' is different but basically as follows. Brilliant 2 for any filler/paint surface. Granat for all other, for the settings if using the Planex easy then use the speed control to find the right balance of material removal and control as some can be very soft. If the paper is shredding then slow the speed down......1800ft at least it will be easier than a pole sander  [embarassed]
