Planex - should I get CT MIDI I or CT26

I have a question for those that have the CT MidI I or CT26 and have sanded drywall. I'm looking to pair a CT vac with my Planex for a personal home renovation. I'm stripping wallpaper and skimming the walls in 7 small rooms of my house.

I currently use a 5hp Ridgid with an Oneida dust deputy however, a lot of dust gets past the cyclone and I've had one time where drywall dust filled the bag and got into the motor. As a result, the Ridgid has lost some of its suction power.

If I'm going to make the investment I'd like a HEPA vac which the CT36 AC is not (and it's pretty expensive). I don't want to spend all this money and regret the purchase. After this project, I (hopefully) won't be doing drywall/skim coating in the future but I will be doing plenty of sanding.

Would I be ok with the CT MIDI I or CT26? If I go with either of those I will be front-ending them with the Dust Deputy. I have a 2nd knock-off cyclone and might try putting them in series. Any advice would be appreciated.

Either vac will work with what you want to do and they both do it equally as well. I've sanded the walls of my entire house with a Rotex and a Midi.

Hi, I don' want to spend your money I will speak to sanding w/planex.Last job 1000 sq.ft ceiling,stipple grind and texture, filled 3/4 of 36ac liner,unknown how the planex performs w/o ac function.Just going from a 5 to 6 in. is a 20% rise, and time 30 to 50% increased.The new 36ac is hepa.[attachimg=1]

Of note the CT36 AC can take the exact same HEPA filter that the CT26 and CT36 use. Which also includes the same wet filter. The HEPA "rating" for the dust collector is only important to a professional getting inspected by OSHA. Happy home owner can have the same thing by just swapping filters. Festool dust collectors also work great for water cleanup.

If you are only doing your own house and don't plan to grind concrete etc, choose your new dust collector by your needs in the future. Size can play a roll for some people.

Myself I have two CT36's with one being an AC version. Often I wished one was a much lighter dust collector, but never really found it to be a big enough issue to buy another dust collector. If I was a painter, then I would buy a Mini most likely. If I was looking at a CT26 I would just get the CT36 as they are the same with just a bigger tub, which means a bigger bag so I go through less bags. Grinding concrete the CT36 AC bags get very heavy!

That little Ridgid vac may not be designed to run in the vertical position you have it, as the bushings for the motor are most likely not designed to handle a side load. *shrugs*

You will REALLY enjoy the much quieter Festool dust collectors. The whine of Ridgid vacs is deafening. Get the Bluetooth module, and a 5 meter D36 hose to go along with whatever you decide.

Does anyone have thoughts about the Bosch VAC090AH 9-Gallon compared to the CT36? It has auto clean and is priced lower than the CT Mini I.

Do you plan on having Festool's with Bluetooth batteries? They won't auto start the dust collector with the Bosch unit. Also there is no Bluetooth remote. Having used a Bluetooth remote I can never go without one now.

Nothing wrong with the Bosch unit though.

Edit: To be clear you won't need an Autoclean for doing one house worth of sheet rock. Do use your Dust Deputy though.

I ended up getting the CT Midi 1, nice unit. Curious what everyone does about vacuum accessories (not Festool). I put the calipers on the hose end and came up with 35mm. I'm looking on eBay & Amazon for 35mm wand/brushes accessories, would something like that work? Any suggestions appreciated.

I went to a local vacuum shop and was able to find lots of accessories that fit. Eventually I grabbed a set of Festool accessories and found them to be superior in many ways.

Shouldn't you get the 36 with the auto clean function? It breaks up the dust from stopping airflow... I think it's the only one for using the Planex based on that. That is if you're going to be doing a lot of it. If it's one room and you just like nice tools then I guess you can shake the vacuum around some yourself every few minutes? I guess it depends on your level of use. As the other guy said he did his whole house with a Rotex and Midi (what nut!).

I went with the 26 because the hose enters from the front and there's no angles on it. For chips it makes sense. But also a cyclone makes sense for chips. None of that is relevant to drywall sanding.
