I need help in buying the correct polishing pads for my RO150.I want to restore the poly to a high gloss. The finish is in good condition. Thanks!

Use Platin 2 disks starting at 400 and polishing through 4000.  The Poly finish will look as good as French Polish.

Would you use Rotex mode for all the grits, or switch from regular to rotex at some point?

I use Random Orbital mode all the way through for the Platin 2.

Sorry to offer a different opinion but I think it is better to use rotex mode when polishing. This is also the general Festool recommendation.

I'll try that next time and compare the results.  I'm finishing two Honduras Mahogany night stands currently and the top surface will give me a good chance to compare.  I'll post my opinion in a week or so, I need to build some drawers first.

can these steps be applied to a pre cat lacquer finish?

Like they always say  "try it on a scrap piece first" but, I don't see why it won't work.  BTW, I use RO mode because I have the ETS 150/3.  I have used the Platin 2 with my RO 90 and didn't see much of a difference between the two modes.
