Porch Build: Ceiling or Wallboard First?

I'm taking our open porch to a 3 season and am up to the interior finish work.  Can someone recommend the best way to join a breadboard ceiling and interior walls (drywall)?  On the 3 outside walls will be drywall and the interior wall (body of the house, slider from kitchen) is cedar clapboards.

If the wall is up first, I assume I'll need to use some trim piece where they join to hide variances in the lengths of the breadboard.  If the breadboard goes up first, the wall will have to butt the breadboard....which is the correct sequence to build this out?

I think that you mean breadboard so ill answer your question as such. You've got a few options. You could

A: install the ceiling first and then put up the drywall with vinyl edge pieces attached to give the top of the drywall a finished look without having to trim it.

B: install them in whichever order you prefer and put a piece of cove or crown moulding all the way around where they meet. You can get crown or cove in PVC or polyurethane which would hold up well outside.

I'd personally do B because I've learned from experience that trying to do something and make it look seamless actually comes out looking plain. The piece of moulding will add a nice finish and depth to the project.

A molding or trim piece offers a lot of flexibility in sequence.  If you wanted a plain transition, I would do the ceiling first.  Instead of using J or L bead on the drywall, I like to use tape.  I fold it like I would for a corner, but only apply mud - usually a Durabond 90 that's a little thicker than regular mud - carefully to the drywall side only.  I carefully embed the tape and continue with subsequent coats.  After the final sand, I use a utility knife to remove the untaped flap that's been protecting the ceiling the whole time.  More mud less caulk this way.
