Porter Cable Stand Up Drill Press

I bought an inexpensive stand up drill press from Lowe's and just checked it with an Una-Gauge. The runout on the chuck is .007. The cast iron table is .019 in the front and .009 in the back and .003 left and right. I see no place to make table adjustments for the front to back discrepancies. As for the chuck, I took it out, cleaned it and reseated it for about the same results. Any ideas or is it just no good?

That's a woodworking drill press.  And, while there are certainly better out there ; do you have a need to be more precise than a couple of thousandths of an inch when boring holes in wood ?

I'll bet some of your drill bits are off by a couple of thousandths from their marked dia. too.

Don't forget that most of the wood we use will move that much too during seasonal changes.

If you really need the precision, then you'll find better out there.

I'm assuming that the chuck is retained through a Morse taper, if so pull the chuck again and clean out the female side of the taper.

Also, sometimes the chuck itself is the problem and just switching to a different chuck cures the situation
