Post Here about the New Version (Xenforo) of the FOG

I don't know if I understand what you are saying, but all XenForo-based sites tend to operate the same. If you are logged in and click on the title of a thread that has unread posts, the software will open the thread at the first post you have not yet read. If you want to go to the last post in a thread, click on the time link at the far right of the thread title block.
Thanks for that Mike...now I'm getting it. :) I kept clicking on new threads and kept getting the same results. 😖

I added a FOG link to my browser toolbar that takes me directly to the unread post page:

I'm wondering if the "last unread post" data was wiped out in the transition. I noticed a number of older threads that I knew I had read and caught up on before the transition were re-marked as "unread", and when clicking into them, was taken to the first post rather than the most recent unread post.

As for the "new member" thing, that appears to have been fixed, but I do miss the post count under the user icon. I find that to be near-essential in the Classifieds.

I'm with you...(y)...nice just to glance over and see if the new post is from a seasoned Fogger or if it's actually from a newbie. And with over 69,000 members, even I can't remember everyone's name. 🤣🤣🤣

In black theme some details are light gray on white background > no contrast.

Just click on avatar image and post count shows.

Hello Everyone - Matt here (my handle changed with the transition)
1. Google URLs from Google search - we are still working on this
2. Icons - we are working on a single color solution for the forum as the multi-color is a bit much :)
3. Picture upload has changed to 8mb from 1mb
4. Desktop max view is now 2000px instead of 1200px to better use real estate of larger screens
5. Member level is now fixed - HOWEVER it might change again as we are reviewing the levels of the old forum to make them the same (current is XenForo default)

New issues - no updates:
1. Adding post count to profiles - working on it
2. Some IMGURL links are broken - reviewing - no guarantee on this one, but we are looking to see what can be done
3. Profile view set to member only

We apologize that the changeover took a little longer than we thought (much longer than in the test we performed). It was a LOT of data over the years, you guys talk a lot :)

We are still working on things but wanted to get it back up as soon as possible!

1. User profile not viewable to public, only to logged-in members now
2. User post counts are now showing by avatar on posts
3. IMGUR posts are now fixed - enjoy the photos again!

As a former sysadmin I know all too well what a nightmare these migrations can be. It is a lot (!!!) of work and even then there will always be some unexpected things popping out of the woodwork. I don't think non-techies appreciate what it takes. Therefore I'd like to convey a heartfelt "Thank you very much!" for putting in all that work to maintain and now upgrade this valuable source of information. Both to Festool and to the people whose task it is to keep this forum up and running.

It appears that a lot of the tags in old threads are no longer rendered, muddying them up. Some of these are emoji tags ([smile], for instance), but most of them appear to be member mention tags ([member=][/member]). I'm sure member IDs got shuffled in the transition, but wasn't sure if the member tags would get migrated, cleaned up, or left in place.

This certainly wasn’t a money saving tactic on Festool’s part. At least 4 Festool people, a consulting firm, and the software vendor all involved and the delay was all caused by the full movement of the sheer size of the database and its attachments. Thankfully I wasn’t part of that 😀
I've been involved in many platform migrations over the years, and it's almost never a straight forward and trivial affair to not have it go completely pear shaped, so I think they did a stellar job on what they did. Kudos to their dev's!

I’m happy that at least the ‘forgot password’ process was fixed in this version. I’ve been locked out of my account for 8 months!

I miss the larger ‘recent posts’ section which is how I mostly consume this site.

Still having text/background color issues on a Mac with the standard Dark theme. It puts white text on light gray backgrounds at times. I can post screengrabs if you want. Here's one:Screenshot 2025-04-10 at 7.12.09 PM.png

While others have expressed gripes about the UI (that I don't necessarily disagree on) I do appreciate the work everyone has done to bring the forum into modern times. XenForo means nothing to me as I have no idea what any of that is about. I like that it's easier to upload photos (8mb will be easier to work with than having to export images to an editor then export them and upload - I really appreciate that).

The color scheme of the UI is difficult to read in both daylight and night modes - as well as on the phone. It hurts mine eyes. And Smorgasbord's pic of the page links is the same on my mac. Definitely the font and layout are HUGE compared to the old forum - and that's annoying. I'd also like a more defined separation between pinned posts and whatever we're currently discussing. The current setup with just the pin icon doesn't set them apart enough.

But I realize with new updates there's a lot of work to be done and I do appreciate the work and effort. I can now even "Like" your work - and I do Like that.

I like dark mode generally phone, tablet and firefox, but this i had to change to Light style, the black was overbearing and i think someone mentioned about links - i could barely see them.
