Hi people,

I am looking for your expert advice here...I am looking at a Powermatic 66 TS...I would love to have one (I currently own a Delta Unisaw 3HP which serves me well).  It is only 2HP.  It is in very good shape, it has a Vega fence which is also in good shape.  The year I believe is 1989.  Single owner (It was a demo when he bought it) and the asking price is 1600.

Conversely, I also know of another 66 that is 5hp 3-phase that has an excalibur slider and it also looks to be in decent shape...I can get it for half the price but then there is the business of the three phase..  I potentially could have thaqt solved though since I do have a 5 hp baldor motor sitting in my Foley Belsaw (Which would then render that useless until I then solve the musical chair situation I would create)

What is your opinion about asking price of the single phase and any comments on the rest are much appreciated.  Thanks for the input.

That seems high for a saw of that age.  I have seen several on CL and other places, for around $900 to $1,100.

By the way, the Vega fence is spectacular.

Thanks mwhafner...that's what I thought too...It looks to be in good shape but I figure if I was going to spend that much I could wait and add to it and start looking at the new unisaw or maybe sawstop.  I personally have never used a PM66 but I have read nothing but positive things...but I certainly do not want to overspend just to have one.

I agree--too much money. I bought a '98 PM66 for $1200 with a bunch of accessories. Great saw!

But is it really going to cut much better than your Uni? Why not put that 5HP motor on the Unisaw?

John

That is exactly the decision maker on purchasing a used PM66 for me...I mean my unisaw does just what I need it to do so it would have to be a great deal for me to make that swap (I do like powermatic tools!) and I was feeling that price was a little high and wanted to confirm.  Thanks for your input!
