Man..... just surfing the web and it happened.....

Maybe time to get rid of the remainder of my 220v German Bosch tools incl the rotary hammer drill....

I'm about to pre-order one myself, been waiting for it to be available here... Hopefully the new vac is coming soon.

I have had mine for a few weeks now. It is an excellent light weight drill for the money. It is actually better than my old makita BHR200.  [smile]

Used mine in earnest last week, for its size and weight it's v good . Bought it as a basic with free battery voucher, so pdc set and bhc with a 5.2 amp battery for £500 = happy bunny.

Thanks for the order! The vibration reduction design in the handle is pretty sweet and the lightweight is nice too.

This is the first SDS Hammerdrill I've seen that doesn't require grease.

If you read the instruction manual, it state to use grease on the drill bits.  [wink]

But none is supplied.  [eek]

whats everyone doing to require a really nice cordless roto hammer? personally i drill the least amount of holes in masonry.

Thx for pointing this out. Completely missed this in the manual. Hint is not very visible. Silicon grease it is....

Don't worry about it, it's like the rinse and repeat on shampoo.  Really, all it does is make a mess.

While I use grease when I occasionally use my hilti. Is it really required?

Received my BHC from Tom Wednesday, put it to work today.

Very smooth, more than enough power for what I was doing.

I also got the Festool drill bit kit for it, very nice bit.

Yes, you must grease the bits. Very small amount of silicone high pressure grease.

I'll leave it up to you to decide.  I've never greased any bits.  Nor do I know any contractors that do. It hasn't been a problem in the 24 years I've been doing construction.  My opinion, don't waste your time, and you won't have the messy grease to deal with as a bonus.

Tom, we disagree here.  If it was required Festool and every other manufacturer would supply grease.  I can think of a few that do, I remember seeing an unopened tube of grease in a case of a well used, fairly big Hilti rotary hammer.  This was years ago and I'm pretty sure that same drill is still running today. I'd bet that same tube of grease is still there.

Festool on page 13 of the owners manual under "Inserting the tool" first bullet is "Clean the tool shaft and lightly grease". I'd link the manual but I could not find it on line.

I serviced tools for years at my fathers rental, we did have bits gall in do to lack of grease. The drive mechanism also lasted longer in a properly eased unit.

Bosch does supply the grease. Festool should also, but.........

I have a tube of Bosch grease I'll be using. Choice is yours on the use of thee grease.

Tom

My Bosch came with grease and states to use it in the manual. They even gave a cloth to wide the excess.

Same thing with Milwaukee.

I never bothered using the included grease on the 1 1/2" rotary hammer until one day the bit got stuck in the hammer and I couldn't remove it. I called up the local Milwaukee rep (good friend) told him what happened and the first thing he asked was if I greased the bits. Well after about an hour I finally removed the bit, wiped the shank with a cloth & put a thin coating of grease on it. I now use grease all the time and the sticking problem that I had before is gone. It can be messy, but I keep a small rag alongside the hammer, bits and grease in the case.

Yes,the performance will degrade after a while. If you have to push on the bit while drilling for the hammering to engage it needs grease. I have a few cans of Hilti grease which should be fine.
