Hey all.   I recently posted about this in a few topics where people were interested in kaizen foam for systainers.  A buddy of mine actually makes pre cut pieces for systainers.  I posted this link in one of the topics but figured I would throw it up in here for everyone to see

He is a really good guy, I imagine that if you want something that he doesn't have just get in contact with him through eBay and he will do whatever he can to hook you up

His name is Brian, here is a link to his eBay store where you can get it.  Pre-cut Kaizen foam for systainers

Feel free to PM me also if you have any questions

Enjoy!

John

I thought this might be a cool consolidated spot to post pictures of what people have done with their Kaizen foam, or other organization type inserts

John

I believe I've posted this elsewhere on the FOG, but this is a fitting place!

This is my Kreg jig and True Position knob/handle jig systainer with a Kaizen insert to keep it all safe and organized!  It's in a T Loc 2 Attic Sys...I keep bits and small parts in the attic!

builderbob- where did you get those orange t-locks and handles?

I got the T loc catches from Warren at www.toolfest.co.uk They came from across the pond...very reasonable prices!

I ordered the handles through woodcraft.

Bob, thats some great stuff man!!    you got the idea perfectly.. thought it would be sweet to have one spot for people to show off their systainer sickness  [cool]

Tell me you have a Fein tool in at least one of those Anthracite/orange T-locs    that would e prefect!

Unfortunately i dont have any tricked out systainers yet as i am still pretty new to this, but boy do i have dreams!!!  im looking forward to all the ideas, and il be sure to post pics of my own as soon as it happens

John

I had a lot of fun with the Kaizen I got from Brian firstly I used my 75th Anniversary Sys 2 and put some Centotec bits together and then went mad with the smaller Woodpecker items
Brian was a great guy to deal with and I hope to get some more from him soon
Cheers Peter

Very nice , Fishy  [thumbs up]

Is that a triple layer of the small T-square and saddle squares?

Seth

Hi Seth. Yes three layers for the T / saddle squares and just two for the carpenters squares, I used the thickest foam in that set up,

That's awesome, those came out great!  I like how you stacked similar tools to save space.  Also really glad everything worked out well with Brian

Keep the pictures coming if you do any more

Anyone else out there have some cool looking organized systainers??  Post some pics

This is what i recently came up with.

very nice!  just like Festool Fishy, i like how you layered tools vertically to maximize space.  neat touch with the removable chunk holding your countersinks, Vix bits and plug cutters all hiding your foresnters under      is it hard to get that upper piece out?  post more when they come please!!

Alright, so i got my hands on some Kaizen foam and empty systainers, here is what i came up with

First is my LR32 systainer.. i didn't buy it as a set because i didnt want the edge stops so i got an empty sys 1 and made my own insert, i did however leave room if i ever decide to get the edge stops or make something to do the job   its the 57mm, and i took 4 layers off the whole thing to slim it down

[attachimg=#]

Next up is my router bit case,   i didnt want to be stuck with the grid that festool has and knew i wanted to include some other accesories in the systainer so this is what i came up with    again its all in a sys 1      this one is also the 57mm with 4 layers removed

I've actually added a few bits since i took the picture, i pre drilled  more holes than i needed so its super easy to add bits when i get them

[attachimg=#]

now onto my HL850, i bought it in a classic and wanted it in a t-loc, also i have the large angle fence for it which didnt fit in the systainer nicely with the stock setup    with this setup i am able to fit everything including my second head and angle fence all into one systainer.   i do have to break apart the fence but since i really dont use it all that much its not that big of a deal to me     its in a sys 3 with 57mm foam

[attachimg=#]

this shows the extruded aluminum section of the fence tucked into the back of the systainer.    i had to shave the ribs in the back of the systainer by about 1/16 each to get it to slip back there

[attachimg=#]

last up is my jigsaw, this is the first of my non festool tools that i have switched over to a systainer, anyone looking to put there bosch into a sys 1 should know that it fits but its a tight one   i think there was one rib on the lid towards the front that i had to notch about 1/8 deep and 1/2 long   this might be because i have that plastic foot protector on it ( no other room to store it off the saw)    again its in a sys 1 with 57mm foam with 4 layers removed

more to come in the future

I've been wanting to change the arrangement of my HL850 Systainer so that  will hold more accessories. I am thinking about using one of the new Sys Midis.  or maybe a two Systainer set  up one for the planer and one for the bench unit and large fence?

I gave the two systainer option a thought but i try to be mindful of size for the stuff that goes in my trailer, i dont have the benchtop or any plans to get it so this seemed to be the most compact for me..  also i dont use it all that much so having to reassemble the fence when i need it isnt an issue

it puts a little more bend on the cord but that shouldnt be an issue,  i would love to retrofit a plug it onto it, anyone seen this done or know if it can be done??

Seth, here and there on various other posts i think i have picked up the fact that you are a bit of a systainer freak.... is this true???  if so please share some pics!!!

Who me?  ::)

I will see what I have that I might not have posted yet.

I bought some of the foam and was wondering if there was a trick to getting the layers to separate cleanly?  I was trying to separate a thick piece into two thinner layers without much luck.

Thanks,
Tom

I think splitting a sheet would be difficult to get good results.

I use a small size snap knife to cut the shape.  Using the snap knife gives an adjustable blade length so it can be set to cut the depth you want consistently. A sturdy pair of large tweezers or needle nose pliers are good for getting it started. Then I push my fingers underneath (between layers) and just start "rolling" it back. Works pretty well that way. I find the hardest to separate cleanly is a large shallow area.

Seth,

That's how I've been making cut outs in a sheet. I was hoping there was a good trick to separating the sheet so I could use it in a shallow drawer.

Thanks,
Tom

Hey Tom,

Its not as easy as they make it seem, (i love the fastcap picture where they are flipping through the payers like a deck of cards, haha... yeah right)  i was able to separate a pretty consistent 4 or 5 layers (about 5/8") off of 3 pieces that were precut for systainers  (i was left with 2 solid pieces for each 1 i started with)

Like seth and yourself, i too use a small blade, retractable, snap off style knife to do all the cutting and also used this to separate the layers

i had better luck splitting in the middle or a layer and not trying to get a clean separation between 2 layers

I fully extended the blade and started slicing into the foam around the perimeter of the piece, started shallow and kept making my way deeper.  be very careful to keep the blade always in the same layer of foam and also slicing in parallel to that layer.

this doesnt get you all the way through but then i used my hand to separate the rest of the way.  i kept my hand/fingers flat and stiff and slowly pushed my fingers through the foam, keep rotating and working from all sides of the cut (like sliding your hand into a tight back pocket of jeans [huh] weird, i know but it was the best analogy i could think of)

i was able to feel if my hand was starting to rip through other layers so i would stop there and only push through other spots

i hope this makes sense, and or helps.. i will try to post a pic of my results
