that's right, since all of us festoolers don't make sawdust for a living and drive mercedes and bmw vehicles. I certainly do agree with you about prestige tough, when ever i'm on a job and take out all my festools i get the looks, and sometimes it might be of envy, but for the most part i think it's plots on how to jack my stuff and push it on ebay.

They are probably looking at your fancy cars and not the Festools. [laughing]

I work out of my garage and always have the door open.  I always have that paranoia when a strange car passes by and slows nearly to a stop to go over the speed bump in front of my driveway (hey, not my idea...)

One day, I was working on something on the floor behind my assembly table.  I heard a big diesel truck swoop in and stop.  When I peeked up, I saw a truckful of Mexican dudes, one was about to get out when the other one spotted me and told the driver to punch it.

So from the street you can easily see the CT-22 and boom arm, the MFT, the TS-75 sitting on it, and the other boxes besides the non-green-n-blue tools.  Obviously that's what they were looking to jack! No, actually, they were eye-balling the 4'x8' sheet of OSB I had sitting in the sun in the driveway to finish off-gassing...

No accounting for taste...

And to think that when I was a kid we told jokes about why you never want to hit one of those folks if you see them riding a bike.  Why?  It may be your bike.

Now where do those nasty stereotypes come from?  From a portion of reality, perhaps?

well said john, all steretypes come from some reality, i'm polish and suprisingly i don't drink (a lot), few beers every few months while at a social event, hard liquor on new years and birthdays, but do i disagree with the stereotype of all polish people being drunks? no, i would say that 75% of polish women can outdrink most men.

Ha ha, I had a Polish girlfriend.  I mean real Polish as in illegal (uhm, no green card; she was 18+).  She could out drink me.  Her blood-alcohol level could be used as a progress bar in the transition from Dr Jekyl to Mr Hyde.  Later, my (way hot) Israeli boss asked why I dated a Polish girl; she said the stereotype for Polish women is (quote) "they are put on the earth to make mens' lives miserable".  Every detail of the stereotype she told me was spot on; I felt like asking her to guess what I had for breakfast, too.

Enough yapping about women and stereotypes.  I want to know about the upcoming Festool prices.  Are we going to see package discounts aside from the vac and mft?  Inquiring minds want to know!

one would assume they will come out with some type of spring promo like last year, unfortunatelly the economy hasn't really made a turn around in the construction field so people are more concious about how to allocate their already thin spread income.  I was at a store looking into purchasing some centrotech drill bits and accessories and whoa did i get sticker shocked, i was going to get the 5mm bit with depth stop for doing on site shelf pin holes and bam 50 smackers for one bit? and a centrotech set consisting of 7 bits 75 bucks,  i wish they did some promos on accessories or brought that centrotech systeiner kit back!!!
if i left my tools in my shop it be one thing but on a job site i know that 75$ would walk away quick, funny how small items develop ability to walk on jobs.

Bring back by popular demand
-centrotech kit in systainer
-Festool Apron

I'm lucky that I live in a region where that type of incident is EXTREMELY rare (almost unheard of), not to imply there isn't any crime.  That would tend to make me a bit paranoid about leaving home (are they watching the house?).  I guess that is what security systems and insurance are for.  The Festools are easy to replace although I own some older hand tools that probably couldn't be replaced.

So when was the last time Festool actually provided a bulk purchase discount on their tools?  OK, I'm getting a little antsy here.  I am going to make a reasonable size purchase soon, but I want to figure out the best timing.  With my luck, I buy the stuff I want and then Festool announces a nice promotion.  If nothing is in the future, then I'll just purchase the stuff as I need it.

I can't answer what/if/when on  new promotions, but the 3 tool and 5 tool discounts have been gone for several years. As previously discussed in another thread, it's the MFT/TS saws and the CT vacs with most tools that when bought, offer a "package" price.

I haven't heard of any bulk purchase discounts or price increases coming.

There are still package deals where you get either 10% off the price of a MFT or a CT, like Bob said.

There is also a deal where if you buy the Boom Arm & Handle, you get the Boom Arm Tool Holder essentially free. You need the Handle with the Boom Arm anyway so if you buy them together, you get a useful option thrown in free.

There is also a KAPEX blade set where you buy the two most popular blades, the fine tooth and universal as a set and save $48.

Here's a list of items I hope to buy this year:

Routers - 1010 & 1400
Sanders - RTS & DTS 400, ETS 125
Vac - CT 22 E with boom arm

I will of course be purchasing the gamut of accessories for those items.  I was hoping they would reintroduce the buy 5 items get 15% off, just like they did several years ago.

Thanks guys for your responses.  I will continue praying to the discount gods.

I would consider no across the board price increase as a bulk discount. (of sorts)  I seriously doubt if they'll do both, not increase prices and offer more discounts.  I hope I'm wrong.  [unsure]

hopefully discounts are coming, i need to accessorize my fleet of systainers! bring the discounts and i'll bring the cash!!!!!

Be sure to get the Boom Arm Set so you get the Tool Holder for free. There was another thread today about a jumpy sander and Alex made the point that setting angle sanders on their pad can cause the pads to deform. That Tool Holder should alleviate that problem.

Also, buy one of the routers or sanders with the CT to get 10% off the CT.

I expect Festool to deal with pricing as they deem best for Festool.  At least one of the German auto makers (BMW) is offering several of their models in USA for considerably less than the same vehicles are offered in Germany.

Dave R.

The key difference between BMW pricing and Festool pricing is that several BMW models destined for the North American market are assembled in the US (in North Carolina amongst other places I believe). This means that their cost basis and revenue is insulated from the euro/dollar exchange rate- at least in the short term.

Festool do not have a manufacturing base in the US and therefore the cost basis with the small exception of US based employees in the service area (not manufacturing) can vary hugely when translated into dollars. Because the euro has been quite strong over the last few years, the dollar cost of festools has increased. We can see a similar exchange rate issue as the strong Canadian dollar has lowered Festool prices recently for us lucky northerners.

The other factor to consider is that a local market may be more or less able to support higher prices, so the manufacturer will charge what he can without hurting demand excessively. BMW may be able to sell a model at a higher price in Germany simply because they can.

This is just me speculating but it make sense to me.

Richard.

I don't want to turn this Festool pricing discussion thread into one about BMW, but I am certain BMW does not build most of their models in USA factories, only the SUVs (which they call SAVs), and even for those BMW imports the engines and other major drivetrain components.  Yet BMW prices German made vehicles in USA less than the same vehicle being offered for sale in Germany.

Here's one bizarre (at least to me) example that you can confirm by reading page 40 of the April 2010 issue of Bimmer Magazine.  BMW's Active Hybrid X6 is priced in USA at US$89,725.  The same vehicle in Munich is priced at Euro 109,000 (= US$160,000) at the time of printing!  That's a lot of money for transportation from South Carolina to Germany!!

For the short term (next 6 - 9 months of 2010) many but not all financial analysts and columnists are predicting that the US dollar will continue to strengthen relative to the Euro.  What Festool management thinks will happen to relative currency values is certainly something that has to be factored into Festool's pricing decisions.
