Do not be fooled by the video.

I tried to trim hard maple edge banding (20mm wide and 1 mm thick edging) using OF1010 and 1/4 spiral trimming bit in one pass, I got burn mark and router bit gouged the wood because the wasted material was not removed quickly by dust extractor, and bit ride up on it.

The best machine trimming the edge is Lamello Cantex, no question but expensive. However, it is worth every penny for production shop.

I think what M Power tools' edging trim kit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z88bctiSUq0&t=23s) does is very similar to what Lamello Cantex does, it should have no problem removing 1mm or a bit more material with a 1/2" shank dish carving bit where OF1010 with edging plate simply cannot.

James

I am afraid I do not like the tone  of the implication that there is any "fooling" in the video.

Peter

Well to be fair Peter, you bring it on yourself.

No one is fooled by by your pleasant demeanour. You're just a Festool shill with a team of Hollywood video editors to make it look like your videos are a true reflection of their tools when really every demonstration you do is a complete failure. Your secret is out.

I hope there is supposed to be a smiley face up there ^^^^

There could be. But I don't think the jovial nature of the post will be lost on Peter, even sans smiley. Apologies if the British wit was lost on you though.  [wink]

Peter, I did not mean to your video [wink], cause clearly people can see you did not remove a lot of material in your video.

I just want to warn people with high expectation, they will be disappointed as I am. Basically, you cannot use OF1010 with edging plate to remove quite some material, and expect perfect flush result.

Lamello Cantex is best for such job,

I think a vertical trim subbase like below with OF1400 plus edge guide and dish carving bit will be better than OF1010 with edging plate for edge trimming. I am going to use 3/8" thick polycarbonate sheet to make a subcase for my OF1400, and try it out.

LOL is that Lamello Cantex $2000 USD!?! Looks cool but I think Ill make do with my OF 1010 and edging plate. That was expensive enough.

Hi James    [member=59657]jzhu[/member]

You can use the OF1010 with the edging kit on realistic bits of edging. I edited most of it out of the building of my Keyboard Cabinet (solid maple framing with walnut detail and maple veneer) and the only shot that remains is at about 2 minutes 10 seconds in this video:

There are no close-ups of the finished results but I would not say that they were "super" if they were not.

I used the kit throughout the project and most of the time the edging width being cut was 14 mm. It was used to cut hard maple, walnut and even some of the maple veneer. Not one of these operations was difficult. They all left a super finish.

Peter

Just remembered - I was using an 8 mm shafted Festool flush trim cutter which was almost new. The quality of the cutter makes a big difference.

It always humours me to read that the Festool is worth the extra money over some other brand, but a tool that is more expensive is way too much money.

In the context of the tread title the Cantex "is awesome".
I know that used examples can be found for

The edging plate set up is a nice add on. I tried it on the OF1010 and the 1400. It is definitely a better fit for the 1010 but is pretty good on the 1400 too. I was surprised overall how well it did work because it looks like it would be one of those  "contraption" type tools.  It does require some set up.  Ultimately I went with the MFK700 .
