Problem with TS-55REQ dust collection

Hi everyone,

I am new to woodworking and thoroughly enjoying it.

Love the site and trying to learn as much as possible.

I am working on an end grain cutting board for my wife (Mother's Day present, ....I know, i'm a little slow ; ).

I bought a refurbished TS55 REQ during the fall and have a CT MIDI to hook it up to. The dust collection just doesn't seem to be working as well as when I first started using the saw several months ago. The suction of the vac still seems strong. The bag is only 1/3 full. It seems to work fine when hooked up with my sander, but when I use the track saw, dust gets blown everywhere. I recently changed the blade because the original was quite dull, but it still wasn't working working well even prior to that. I doubt that I am getting even half of the sawdust.

I tried a search, but the terms "dust collection" and "track saw" return quite a few results to sift through.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would start by checking for clogs in the hose and dust chute and putting some blue tape over the access port on the saws side.

Also, double check the suction is all the way up.  I sometimes forget to turn it back up when I'm done sanding.

I had to rescue a Qwas dog that I sucked up off the MFT a week or 2 ago. : )

OMG you just became a dear friend!  I have a bag on the front porch to throw in the trash for tomorrow pickup and I have a Qwas dog in it.

There will be more dust when cutting a narrow strip from the edge of a board.  Also, put tape over the hole in the side of the blade cover.

Also make sure the viewing window or the green splinter guard is pushed all the way down to the material before you make a cut. This will help direct the dust up the shroud.

Ultimate Dust Deputy was by far and away the best upgrade I have ever added to a Festool product! Used it with my CT 22 for 5 years or so, same bag, have emptied the plastic bag in the UDD several times.

I've had the same experience with the UDD and my CT22 and the only reason I emptied a quarter filled bag was because of the very fine sanding of varnish when I was playing around with different finishing techniques and partially clogged the bag.  Otherwise I would be still using the same bag 5 years later.

$260 buys a lot of bags!

No bags in six years, much larger capacity about the size of the larger size CT's so you don't have to empty the reusable plastic bag very often at all.

I prefer to just take the bag out and throw it away. No dust cloud when you dispose of the waste.

I just had this happen to me and the problem was the bag ruptured and the bag compartment as well as the filters were full.
