We currently have a box standard rubbermaid tote for all of our dogs (5 total) dog toys. So I saw Marc Spangalo's weaved hamper and thought I would give a go a a similar chest type dog bin. No plan, just a free build. It was nice to get some free time in the shop.
I build the front and rear frame (domino construction):
Added the sides, and laying out the center bit:
I cut a bunch of 3mm slats and used to domino to cut the mortises for the vertical slats:
Used the router to cut the slot for the horizontal slats:
Did a quick layout of the slats:
Trimmed the slats and dry fit the end using cauls to get the slats aligned:
Got the front all mocked up:
Thats where I finished this weekend. I ended up getting the sides done last night. I need to mill up some more slats to do the back and buy some more timber for the top. I guess thats the issue with not planning and using whats on hand...oh well good times.
