Proper Method for Sealing Cut Lumber

Had my local sawyer cut me some slabs from a white oak crotch this week, but it's going to need to dry for awhile. I understand that there's something called Anchor Seal that is used to paint the ends to prevent cracking. Is there something particular special about Anchor Seal, or can I just use a latex paint?

I use Anchor Seal, recommended it recently in another thread here.

Best to apply as soon as the tree is cut down
