I’ve been a fan of this kind of square for a long time but they’re hard to find in the states.
Now a new to me dealer in Missouri is importing a broad range of squares from the manufacturer (Kinex in the Czech Republic).
Taylor Tools
Go to measuring>squares>Machinist/engineer>Machinist try square with base
This style is one thick L shaped piece of precision steel with a flat bar screwed to the bottom so it can stand up steady or reference an edge. They also have thick one piece squares with knife edges and the two piece squares we are used to here.
