Question about MFT/3-VL

Hi all,

I'm new to the list so please forgive me if this question may have been answered.

I'm a festool user and love my hardware to bits. I use the MFT/3 with a 2nd MFT added as extra assembly space. what I'd like to do is add the MFT/3-VL to it but would like to use the sliding table accessory along with the fence and router table attachment for the MFT/3-VL. is this possible? my festool rep wasn't completely sure and it's left me stumped. I don't want to be spending more money on another system unless necessary. ideally, if the sliding rail works on the MFT/3-VL, then I could leave the setup there and use when needed.

cheers

welcome to the fog.
i dont own the cms or vl but i dont see why not.
the vl is just the cms but with different corner blocks on 2 sides.
the sliding table fits tot eh long edge on the cms (but i presume you could put it on the side )

i was thinking of getting a vl and a length of mft extrusion to bolt to the wall.

Is this what you are trying to do - see if the sliding table works with the VL?  This is one of the sets offered here.

The profiles for the CMS are not the same as the MFT/3.  In fact the profile for the front and rear of the CMS are not the same.

Hello all

I appreciate the two different profiles on the sides of the MFT/3, MFT/3-VL & the CMS are different. But could somebody please confirm that the sliding table, Festool Part No: 492100, definitely fits on to the long edge of the MFT/3-VL? I don't want to order it and then find I'm in trouble....... I have surfed the internet but could not find anything to confirm this fact  ???

Uhm, to me it looks like it actually is attached to the long edge of the VL in the picture above that Peter just posted?

Good evening Reiska

[big grin] Yes - I had actually seen that picture - but "Is it part number 492100??"

I have searched for far too long today on the internet and cannot find confirmation........ As the original post said even the Festool rep could not say!!!!!

Sorry if my question made me look "thick as two short planks"  [big grin] [big grin] [big grin]

The Festool UK site is just hard to find stuff on.  The Festool USA site shows 492100 as an accessory for the VL.  And yes it is the sliding table with the rail that mounts to the VL.

Peter

There is only one sliding table for the CMS / CS50 and it's that 492100 one.

The MFT/3-VL has the exact same functionality as the CMS-GE standalone unit, and the slider 492100 will fit it just fine.

That Festool rep should be send to some more Festool classes for not knowing this.

Hello all

Thank you Peter Halle & Alex  :)

I have now ordered a 492100 and will wait patiently for the delivery man  ;)

Hi Alex and Chubby,

As Alex said, the MFT/3-VL share the same functionnalities than the standalone unit. There is a slight difference, though: you can use the slider you just ordered, indeed, but not the outfeed table extension. I wish i could use one for my VL...

Hello plouf

Please put me straight on why the out feed table extension could not be used?

The sliding table, 492100, fits on to the side of the MFT/3-VL so why couldn't a out feed extension table still go on to the backside of the MFT/3-VL?

I don't have one of these out feed extension tables but am curious on your comment  [huh]

Kind regards - chubby

The vl CMS does not have a leg mount on the side that attaches to the MFT and therefore can't accept the extension table. The lower keyhole slot receives the lower support of the outfeed extension.

Bob

Hi Chubby,

Bob explained it crystal clear!

But there should be alternatives. One of these days, I will check again the solutions the two Peter's posted on how to take advantage of the v-groove and see if it could be applied to a convenient outfeed extension.

I think that, theoretically, you could attach the long side of an MFT/3 to the short side in a "L" and put the CMS VL in the crook of the L.

I know, it'a a stretch...

Thank you builderbob. Yes as plouf said you answered it crystal clear. I guess the missing leg would cause a problem  [big grin]

Guess I'll have to ask the missus to come and help me and catch the out feeds!!!!

If you have either of the Kapex left side extensions (old or new style), you can use that as, at least, a partial outfeed.

Tom

Hi Tom,

The Kapex extension may be useful here. But there is still the caveat that JMB pointed out and demonstrated a couple of years ago.

But apart of this little concern, it works and looks like a good solution, yes.
