I will ordering a DF 700 and have the following questions.  I currently have a 500:

1) What is the most useful size cutter.  My initial use will be joining table legs to table/frame on moderately sized pieces.

2) Is it worth getting the trim and cross stop.  I do use occasionally these on the 500. I assume the ones for the 500 will not fit the 700.

Thanks

The material dimensions you will be using will determine what size bit you will be using.

The DF700 comes with a 12mm cutter which is a fairly common size tenon made with the 700.  what size is the material you will be using?

The trim stop for the 500 will work with the 700 and depending on age of your 500 the cross stops may also. Around the time of the release of the DF700 (June 2012)me made a change to the cross stops that allow one set to be used with both machines simply by switching the orientation of the pins on the cross stop.

My 500 has the paddles - not the pins.  I think it is around 3 years old.

The domino itself has the paddles but all the CEOs stops will have the pins.
If the cross stops you have are interchangeable you will see a "500" and a "700" on the plastic surrounding the pins.

The sets with the extra cutters and tenons are excellent values. I have all the cutters and tenons and have used all the sizes over the past 2 years I've owned the 700. I never thought I'd ever use the mega tenons, but I did.

^Yep^
I got both the 500 and 700 tenon set, which includes the cutters.

Then with the Seneca gear (adapter) you can also use the 500 set with the 700.

The Systainer with the 1060 pieces come with a complete set of the 500 cutters.
So it is the cheapest option.

The Seneca gear was direct from Seneca.

I had the 500 and returned it due to its limitations in bits size and that hard to press ON button. I have the 700 with the seneca bit adapter to run all the 500 bits. i love its heft in size and way more stable.

[member=40772]Holmz[/member] I don't see a kit with all the XL size cutters and dominos on the Festool site; only a kit with the 8mm and 10mm bits and dominos and a separate kit with the 14mm bit and 12/14 mm dominos.

I see what you mean, the small size have the cutter. The 1060 pc kit.
The large dominos are 8/10 and then 12/14 kits.

Most stuff 8/10.
Barn doors 12/14.

I have the DF 700 and its the best tool I have ever bought.  I bought both domino stytainers however, I tend to use 10 12 and 14 mm dominos on home projects. I have the Seneca bit however I have never used it yet.  Superb piece of kit
