Question on Router.

Hi, can anybody help me please, i want to know if i can use my of 1010 to rout work tops, or is it just not powerful enough? thnk's Sid.

Hey Sid,
Welcome to the forum.  I see lots of folk have read your question, but no one has responded.  Maybe we could help if you gave a little more info on what you need the router to do.  Are you doing edge treatments, routing mortises, dovetails???  How deep do you need to plunge?

Hi, Jess i bought the router for around ?200, as i thought it was reasonable for this money as it's a festool.But getting to the point i haven't used a router before, and i have two kitchen tops to fit in my home so was going to give it a bash, but was worried it wouldn't be powerful enough to do mason mitres, the bench tops are 1600 wide and 2" thick.But in general it wasn't bought for this i just wanted to learn how to use a router as you can produce nice work from them, so any advice from a professional would be taken on board thank's and regards Lee.

This is not the correct router to do mason mitres on any worktop. Their is not enough power and it dose not have a deep enough plunge, you also probably wont be able to find an 8mm cutter long enough.

Just curious, why use a mason mitre on a counter top vs just butting them together?

I always thought that it was used so that you could carry the edge treatment around an inside corner as with a miter joint without having to sacrifice as much material as you would with a traditional miter.

You would need to upgrade to the OF1400 to do this task.  I presume you have the relavant jig to do this.  If you have not done this before, i would suggest doing a practice run on a couple of scrap pieces as it  can be easy to make a mistake & it would suck if you did that on your finished tops.
