Client wanted wainscot look up staircase. They were on tight budget and couldn't afford true raised panel wainscot ,so this is an easy inexpensive alternative . I drew design on wall (chair rail & squares), had my dry wall guy skim coat wall smooth below chair rail and paint two coats of primer. Then installed flexible mouldings ( resin-art) for panel look with chair rail. Then paint, done. Easy and affordable. Done this technique a number of times on curved staircases with good results.
