Looking for any suggestions on how I could make the wood grid/slats and what wood I could use. The finish product will be painted white to match the trim.

Epoxy will soften when exposed to heat too fyi, but will need to be above 65-70C for a while for that to start to happen, not sure how war it will get in there? Will regain hard form and strength when cool.
