Rain, rain, go away!

It's been a rainy September so far and it's starting to be a problem with getting all of the outside work done this year.  I know Peter has mentioned the rain causing problems for his too, anyone else in the same boat?

The job I'm on now is a new roof on a greenhouse.  We've managed to get the old roof torn off and the new Ipe ridge boards installed, the rafters are cut, the ends sealed with wax and sitting until we get some dry (or drier) weather.  This should be a fun job but all the rain has spoiled that. [mad]

The poor banana tree in the greenhouse is taking a beating from the wind as a few thunder storms have blow in.

The forecast for this weekend was for rain, it turned out to be pretty nice.  If I'd known that I could have worked.  Oh well, I did get out on the kayak this morning.

It's been rainning for the past few days, but not as much as predicted. They are calling for more rain next couple days and after that we should be dry.

Oh, don't get me started. The rain was bloody torrential here the last 2 months. Had a couple of weeks where I could only get 10 hours work done.

We had an incredible spring here, starting march with a couple of very hot weeks. Sometimes, in march we still have this:

Instead, this year we were more like this:

[attachimg=2]

So that very hot spring put a lot of moisture in the air which the summer decided we should get back on our heads, with interest. We've had double the amount of rain that's normal for us.

Brice, the rain has been a problem here.

We do mostly interior work, but lately we had some exterior stuff that was a problem because of rain.  And our  interior job we start tomorrow has no garage, no porch, nowhere to set up, unload, or work under cover.

Soon, it will be winter and we'll be grousing about snow and ice!

The rain has been a problem here also. We haven't had hardly any in years. We normally get about 32" per year. I'm not sure we've gotten that much if you total the last 3 years.

If this is a sustained pattern, the normal lifestyle here would have to change to something more like that of Phoenix. We gave up our lawn after the first 3 years of drought and went gravel. It was the best thing we've done relative to our property in a long time. When we walk around the neighborhood, we used to see lush gardens and lawns. Now we see burnt out landscape.

Recently, flying over Texas, everything looked either like a desert or like previous flights had dropped Agent Orange. The State is parched and the tops of the trees everywhere are brown or browning. 'No wonder wildfires are so successful.

Be careful what you wish for.

Tom

I'm going to stop complaining now when it rains!  I moan and groan when I see some t-storms on the forecast.  God forbid I get a little wet dragging my tools inside a house for kitchen installs...  [embarassed].

Should count my blessings that all of my work is indoors.

Stay dry guys.  Except you Tom, you guys need the rain.

Had a pretty sunny day for the first time in weeks it seems.

Here's wishing to those guys north of me tomorrow - sunny skies and fat riches.  GO FOGGERS!

My 10 foot deep pond is bone dry. People here complain about rain, but in the scheme of things we have not had enough, though no official drought like in Texas. Because the pond was dry so long now the bottom is damaged and I fear without a very expensive repair the dock is just going to sit over an empty hole filled with new trees and weeds.

I was in Ohio, just past your domain, Brice, for a few days.  Came back home to CT on the 20th.  I've had about three days without rain since.  On one of the days, I got a flat on my trailer.  Replacement tire must have been out of spec and rubbed a great big blister in sidewall within a half mile.  Spent rest of day going over suspension, tire size and trailer frame to determine cause.  Finally fixed problem late in day, but day was lost.  Day before yesterday was nice.  got three lawns mowed and then my big mower quit.  Tried blowing some leaves and blower quit (brand new blower last fall).  Dropped mower and blower off at my equipment guru and went home to get my backup mower and blower.  Found a flat tire on the mower.  Said "To hell with work"  I think work was not in the cards for the day.  Yesterday was rainy in morning and I got all my equipment back in motion, but with heavy rain, no mowing possible.  Finally stopped raining by noon, but too wet for mowing.  I think we might see some sunshine in a day or two.

While in Ohio, I renewed friendships with some old friends from Dallas.  I heard the horror stories about their draught.  That is worse than the rain we have been having.  wish we could trade a little from each area.

Great story, some days you just can't get anything to go right.

It's rained here every day for the past week.
It's raining again today.

We've had rain everyday day too, luckily it didn't slow us down too much last week.  This weekend it's rained all constantly and it's been cold.  We went from September 30th straight to November 1st. [sad]

Looks like we could get rained out tomorrow.

There is this strange warm orange orb in the sky today, it looked vaguely familiar.  I did a quick google search and apparently it's called the sun. [blink]  Too bad the materials we need to move forward on the green house are back ordered. [mad] [mad] [mad]

Sounds like its kayak time.

Well, here in Yorkshire we had a glorious few days last week.

Monday, the builders were in & stripped off the old roof. 2 new steels went in today, along with new timbers. Then they temporarily re-sealed the roof with felt & tarps.

We now have high winds and torrential rain, and the temporary roof isn't quite 100% watertight [mad]

Oh, and they "didn't have time" to lift all the new plasterboard & insulation for the inside into the roofspace (8'x4's won't physically fit up the staircase), so that's still outside, under another tarp. Hope that it doesn't all get wrecked... [mad] [mad] [mad]

Try turning them like we do here -- 4 x 8's.  Easier going up stairs and through doorways.  [tongue]

Hopefully this pattern has broken.  Been beautiful here for the last couple of days.  The best sign?  A deposit in the bank account!  Yeah!

Now, here is wishing for an extended fall.   [unsure]

The rivers are pretty high for this time of year so the water is moving.  That takes some of the fun out of it.

Okay Ken, that's one of your best ones yet. [big grin]

Jonny, I hope you and the better half stay dry.

We've just had at least (or over) 5" of rain in 24 hours - my rain guage tops out at 5" so.............  and more to come!

From rain to snow.  We've got our first snow fall this morning, a light coating in the grass. [sad]  Who else is getting snow this weekend?
