RAS 115 Dust Chute Question

I'm a new Festool user/owner, and this is my first post.  Last weekend I purchased a Rotex125 and CT26 from my local hardware Co-op.  They recommend this setup for stripping multiple layers of paint off redwood beams on the outside of my house.  I was very excited, to say the least, about my new German made tool setup, but quickly realized that the Rotex was not doing the job nearly as quickly as I had hoped.  That led me to purchase the RAS 115.  I ended up buying it through Amazon, since my local store didn't stock this unit, and told me that it would take 2 weeks to get one, sorry Jackson's Hardware.  The RAS arrived next day and I was up and running.  I'm working on a vertical surface up on a ladder, and upon first use of the RAS, the dust chute fell right out of the tool!  This came as a big surprise, since I had used the Rotex 125 for hours without issue.  The paint stripping action is superb with the RAS, notably more effective than the Rotex, but what's up with that dust chute?  It falls out, so I fit it back in, only to find that it falls out again!  Please help!  [attachimg=#]

[welcome] to the FOG!

That is definitely not normal.  Get on the phone with Amazon right away and have them send out a replacement and send that one back to them as defective.  Since they shipped the other one next day, I think you should expect that same time frame from them on the replacement, but confirm that with them.

I've got a RAS and never had this happen.  I'd definitely send it back for a new one.

Thank you for the prompt repsonses, Ken and deepcreek.  I had a feeling that something wasn't right about that.  I already contacted Amazon though my on-line account, and I should have a new RAS 115 by Friday, which is good because I have a lot of work to do this weekend before the rain that's coming next week!

Hi bdalessio,

Welcome to the FOG !  [smile]

Please post how the new dust chute RAS works out and  the results of the paint stripping.

Seth

The new RAS arrived next day, and I had a successful weekend of stripping paint -no issues with the dust chute.  Thank you to the forum for your advice, and thank you to Amazon for the quick replacement.  The Saphir 26 paper worked wonders on taking off the old paint.  Brad
