Re: Festool Belt Sander

As I was belt sanding some poplar (Porter Cable 4 X 12) with all of the requisite noise, dust ( lots of dust) I was thinking how nice it would be to have a Festool Belt Sander connected to my dust extractor. When it dawns on me that I might have a quick connection with someone who travels to Brussels several times a year. Could it be that they could bring me a Festool Belt Sander????? So my question is, is there a Festool Belt Sander available over the pond? Is it a sound piece of equipment? Can we order belts online? Is this just wishful thinking on my part?

My insight to this pipe dream would be appreciated!

PS: I already own a RO 150 but will reach for the PC belt sander when I have some aggressive sanding. The RO is fantastic but when push comes to shove, the belt sander will still remove material faster IMHO.

Do a search on the Festool BS75.  They do connect up to the vac with a little adaptor.

If you want aggressive, try a RAS115... It is one of my absolute favorites, and rarely gets talked a about.

I totally agree that the RAS115 is aggressive but I need (most often) to stay away from cross grain scratches.....

I use my 4x24 Porter Cable sander with my ct and it collects most of the dust it just leaves some at the back edge of the board. If you still have the pipe that the dust bag goes on the 27mm hose slips on that, it is kind of loose but it is better than nothing. I have the ro 125 and the ras 115 but nothing hand held beats that beast of a belt sander to level large glue ups.

I agree, unless you particularly want the Festool, adapt your existing sander.

If getting the Festool consider the set with surface area frame and stationary frame.

Attached picture shows my Metabo connects easily to a Festool Vac. Vac on auto and suction at half.

Stephen got it!

Belt sanding in one direction with a sanding frame to limit the tools bite.  Belt sander upside down, as a general grinding tool for on site.

There is a lot of good information and very knowledgeable craftsman on the FOG.

I purchased a used AEG hbse75s after reading Michael's detailed posts.  After cleaning and inspecting the tool, I turned it on, full power and wow.  

This tool is the perfect balance of power, weight and size for me [tongue]

I've used the Bosch, Elu, and older Ryobi's
