Reattach Kapex blade guard

I took my blade guard off this morning to clean it because the left laser was non existent.  I took what I thought were sufficient pictures of the assembled saw so that I could put it back together but I'm at a loss right now.  I've looked at the exploded diagram of the saw but can't figure out how to attach the spring and thin metal band included in these pictures. Would anyone be willing to snap some pictures of their assembled saw that show these parts so that I can put this thing back together? Thanks.

I did mine a few weeks ago but have not got access at the moment sorry, the thin metal strip acts as a bearing around the plastic guard behind that plate you have spare and the spring hooks into a hole on the guard(cant remember the other end sorry but dont panic it is straight forward when you work it out

I figured that about the metal strip but it popped out of there along with the spring pretty quickly.

Hope these help

Also for future reference there is a plastic guard for the lasers that can be removed without removing the guard. This is where the dust will build up and make your lasers not work. To access this loosen screw on the right side. Push the plastic guard towards the blade guard and then pull out.

Don, thanks for the pictures, they did help earlier today.  I ended up getting it back together.  Let's just say I'm thankful I don't work in the service department at Festool.

[member=3752]rnt80[/member] …I’m on the same boat as you were.  I had an off cut kick up and jammed the guard so I had to disassemble to dislodge to wood.  The long spring came off and I do not know where it attaches to the hood.  I see where it attaches to the clear plastic guard but not the other end.  I see in Don T’s photo it goes into the shroud somewhere.  Any help you can provide is appreciated.

Never heard back from anyone, not too surprised.  I've been here for years but lost interest over the years.  FOG has become more of a "which sander should I buy" or "my Kapex sucks" forum then a sharing of help and ideas of yesteryear.

Unlike the op, I wasn't able to take pictures before I disassembled the shroud as the wood projectile was like a bomb going off inside.  The recoil spring was dislodged, I had no idea where to connect it.

I was able to figure it out after sleeping on it over night. And Don T's photo was instrumental.  I also had the added bonus of improving the handle lift up.  It was sticking, staying in the down position.  I cleaned and lubed the thin metal shim that's in the blade guard itself and now it's like new again.  If anyone has this problem in the future and finds this thread on a search result, pm me and I will happily talk you through it. [member=3220]Jim Kirkpatrick[/member]  Glad it worked out with the blade guard. As you experienced, it’s not really easy to tell unless dismantling..  [big grin]

A bit off topic, but I guess most of us vary the intensity in here. So if one miss those who are well acquainted with one specific subject your out of luck, for some days, weeks - Months?
I know when very busy at work or seasonal things at home, there’s less time to contribute here.
Often I see others chime in, and no need to argue?!? or interfere!?  [big grin]

On the other hand, I have missed seeing you in here and your projects, as I like your style. (Could be that a few of them are similar to north European styles.. [wink])
Your step stool have built a nest in my head, one day not too far away I”ll make one, or two.. depending of how time consuming it will be. That said, thinking production style helps making more at the same time. This and your recent tables inspired me a lot.

I'm sorry that the FOG wasn't as responsive to your needs as you would have liked, although I don't personally subscribe to your expectation of turnaround time.  I've seen slightly faster responses on the Facebook group, but I can't say that I would ever put a high expectation in anything short of a 24-hour turnaround.  I think there were 5 posts between when I went to bed last night and when I checked the FOG this morning; sometimes there are as many as 30.

First, you tagged someone who originally posted their response over 6 years ago; rnt80 hasn't been active on the FOG since 2017.  Second, the person who assisted with the photos 6 years ago hasn't been active since Feb 13, 2022; not everyone gets on the FOG daily or perpetually (see also: Facebook group).

I don't know about everyone else, but I was traveling for the 3-day weekend.  I read this post, but I didn't have the energy or patience to go out into the freezing shop to dig out my Kapex to disassemble it to take pictures.  That said, that IS something I have done for smaller tools that are stored in Systainers in my basement when I have the time, so I take a bit of offense to the assertion that people on here aren't willing to share or help each other out.

I don't know Jim, 6:05 pm to 10:55 am? Basically overnight.  Really not that long considering the topic.

In general FOG does have a pretty good track record on the speed of helpful replies. Especially when it is all voluntary input. Can't count the number of times I went out to the shop to measure something or take pictures in order to answer some ones question.

I understand what you mean about the common topics but those have always existed and are frequently the topics that bring new members to the forum. There have been suggestions over the years to find ways to limit those topics but that would almost certainly end up also resulting in fewer people engaging in discussions.

There are, however, plenty of topics that are not in the common category. Maybe not as many as in the past but they do still show up. I wonder if you might post a walk through of the blade guard situation that you had so that it is available for the next person that has a similar problem? Rather than having people PM you instead. There by adding to the topic pool.

Seth

From the video you linked, I'm saving these screenshots for the future.

Thanks @Frank-Jan and @ChuckS for posting the video and screenshots therein.  They were just what I was looking for and they will be very helpful to anyone in the future.

@SRSemenza, Seth you're right, perhaps I was a tad impatient.  I'm under a deadline and I guess I was voicing my frustration and I shouldn't have.  The Festool schematics are unclear I was afraid I was going to have to pack up my heavy saw and ship to Festool Service for a simple jam.  Please accept my apologies.

If anyone can chime in back on this thread. I  recently re fitted my blade guard with help from this thread today (thank you for all contributors)

I  have noticed on reassembly that the guide rocker - especially the bearing makes a very small amount of contact with the spring at the furthest range of motion - Does anyone else notice this condition? I've attached a pic of the spring / rocker junction to explain.
