I don't get to stair jobs as often as I would like but this is a style I haven't done in 21 years. That statement makes me pause to think that seems like a lot of years and I am not even 50 yet. Anyway on a recent remodel job the homeowner wanted to change the look of the stairs to show off in the new open floor plan and they wanted a bullnose with a volute. Sorry pictures aren't to good. Not sure why they wanted popular but customer is always right.

Great work.  How did you do that half circle bottom part that extends out into the room beyond the staircase?

All of the parts where bought. The bottom Bullnose tread comes made I just cut down the riser for the rise I need and trim down the tread to fit my size of steps then glue and nail in place. They also send a cove mold and shoe mold curve pieces to fit around the curved part. The volute comes in pieces I cut them to fit my angle the glue them together with the supplied bolts and the bottom piece glues back over the bolt to hide them. Sand all the joints so they flow together and you got a handrail.

Nice work! I'd love to get to build more custom feature stairs.  We see less and less of it it seems.

The only thing I would have done different is to get the spindles sprayed pre finished before installing them. I will not stain or brush spindles if there already installed.
Its a pain in the butt and they wont look as nice as if they were sprayed.
The guy that will put the finish on the stairs is the guy that will either make your work look good of bad.
