I recieved a email today from Ian Shorthands aka Woodworking Wizzards daughter. She said that Ian passed last week due to a massive heart attack. Thats the only info I have.

I met Ian at my last festool/meet up/bbq. He was a very nice guy who was definitely a festool fan. I had the oppurtunity to visit his shop and he had about every festool known to man.

He continually amazed me how many kool jigs and ideas he had and posted here.

He was very free and open to share them with anyone and everyone.

Since my move back to the USA we have kept in touch. Even then when I had questions about festools and posted them here he would email me with suggestions how to solve whatever issue I had.

Thats the type of guy he was. Very giving and personable.

His passing is a big loss for us all.

I posted a photo of Ian taken at my from last bbq. He is the one standing behind my wife (the cook)

Oh no! This is terrible news! He was a stand up guy. About a year ago, Ian sold me (actually I won the associated auction but he very graciously agreed to ship internationally) a pristine LA-CS fence via that well known online auction site. When the package arrived, I found that a plastic part had broken in transit. I contacted him and and found that he was only too happy to reimburse me for the cost of a new part. In the course of our initial correspondence he also divulged his FOG membership (and his screen name) which instantly created a rapport between us, even through we were separated by thousands of miles and an ocean and had never met. I really appreciated his willingness to share his many brilliant workarounds and ideas and I, for one, will miss his generous contributions to this forum. I wish his family all the best in this difficult time.

Such sad news. I only met him once, but he was such a warm, genuine guy. A great loss.

I'm so sad to hear this.  The variety and sheer creativity of the jigs he posted on the FOG were amazing.  We were a richer community for his participation, and will be poorer now as a result of his passing.

Such a shame. His ingenuity was outstanding. Shame.

Cheers. Bryan.

What a loss.  My thoughts go out to his family, friends, and also all those who he interacted with here and elsewhere.  He had a writing style that displayed knowledge without a know it all attitude.  He was not always agreeing but he was cordial.

Two young and too soon.

Peter
