Recognize these?

After a bunch of gluing & sanding using my Festool sanders, my VacSys1, and clamps…I found these on the floor.  Everything still works and looks in tact, but that machined screw sure looks like it needs to go back in something with the spring.  Do these look familiar to anyone?

I wish I could help but I'm clueless. Maybe [member=58842]guybo[/member] can help out as he seems to be a good source with knowledge on all the arcane parts & items that Festool offers.

A spring and a threaded collar that needs to be tightened with a spanner wrench is not the local fastener found at Ace Hardware.  [smile]

Thanks Cheese. This has been a real head scratcher for me. I even looked through the parts blowout diagram for the vacsys but nothing seems to be missing. I only do woodworking in my garage so these are not some obscure car or bike parts.

Hi, I don't have a vac sys , I would look at the foot valve, hydraulic foot pumps use something similar to direct flow. Or you significant  other is messing with you.

No, but that ruler looks pretty interesting.  Where did you find it?  [smile]

That is the 8” ruler from my Woodpecker indexable square.

I don't think that's a festool part at all.

I’m beginning to think you’re right. Festool is the most engineered tools I have, so I assumed that brand particularly in the location I found them.

Hah! My spouse is too nice to pull that trick, but if my brother had visited any time recently, he would instantly be the top suspect.

+1

I'm pretty familiar with the Vac Sys and all of the individual parts because I've modified a SE 1 & SE 2 to be operated individually using separate vac pumps but to also be connected and to operate as a single entity. Those 2 extra parts just don't show up on my radar screen.

Further, I looked up on ekat the assembly drawings for the vac pump, SE 1, SE 2 & foot valve and the extra parts don't pop up there either.

Here's hoping they didn't fall out of some control valve on the car.  [big grin]

Looks like part of a ball detent to me.  Find a ball bearing amongst the mix of floor hardware?

Good thought. Although I did not, I’ll use that idea as a clue and keep my eye peeled. A ball bearing may be snickering at me from a dark corner on the floor.

Used google lens on the photo (cropped on the ring) and am getting hits for similar parts.

Looks like it matches as a bearing retainer.  I think meaning it holds a ring of bearings in place and the shaft runs through the hole vs holding a single bearing for a ball detent.

Not sure how much help that is.  Seems that opens up the possibility to a lot more objects - tools, chairs, bikes, cabinets, etc.

Another good clue. Good idea re Google lens. Part of my puzzle is I found them together on the floor and they were pretty clean like they just fell outta their home. This week I’ll be going back through all the tools I used to in the last 5-7 days. Careful inspection planned of power tools since I’m assuming the parts vibrated loose. I don’t want anything else coming apart when I am using them.

I have a little jar on my toolbox for orphan found parts. This would fall into that jar since it clearly isn't something spare that came out of a box I opened. I can say that jar has come in handy many times.

Hope you find it! Honestly, if you stop looking, you'll practically walk into the part's owner

I reached for one of my Woodpecker’s indexable squares today and VOILA the mystery is solved. See photo. I wasn’t able to find the button to complete the re-assembly, but am sure Woodpeckers will help me out. I did use the tiniest bits on my channel locks and found the other square needed tightening, so this is a heads up to others.

Thank you to everyone who helped me with my investigation.

[member=69275]Adamsse[/member] Hey how are you? I remember exchanging messages with you when you took your first tentative steps into this nerdy wilderness. It's great to see a girl still happy to be generating some sawdust.

Best wishes from the UK.

Thank you for asking [member=75780]woodbutcherbower[/member]. Have totally fallen in love with this hobby in retirement. I may not chat on the FOG often, but it has been a great resource and folks like you are great to connect with. Best wishes from the US.
