Recommendations for compact sliding miter saw (U.S. market)

Hi,

I am considering a compact sliding miter saw. 8-1/2 blade size with about 12'' crosscut capacity seems a good combo for me. It's important that the saw can easily be stored and I would probably use it on a stand that also can be used as a stop for repeatability (e.g. Bosch T1B). I am a DIYer/hobby woodworker and would mainly use it for a deck project that is coming up, baseboards, and drawer boxes. Right now, I would use a TS55 with TSO rail square for these tasks often with one TSO parallel guide attached to the rail square but capacity is limited and it's so much slower.

Any recommendations?

Hitachi...now Metabo HTP...has always made a nice 8" compound slider. I have one I've had for 20ish years, and it is still as accurate as any saw in my shop.

I was thinking about small overall size. It should also be compound but I think most in the sliding miter saw category are (maybe I am wrong about that).

Lots of us are waiting on the XGT Makita 216 (LS002G.) Tools and Stuff and Scott Brown have both done video reviews. Dust collection looks like it could be better, but aside from that it could be a winner.

Is it hybrid battery/corded, or battery only?  I don't know how much of the 40V line is available in North America yet, unfortunately.

Battery only so far. Sometime this month is the word on a release date.

The 40v mitre saw is fantastic - I bought one and sold my KS60 as a result. Not having power takeoff is a bit of a problem but, for what I'm using it for, that's not an issue. The dust collection I've seen when hooked up to a CT with a short D36 hose wasn't noticeably much worse... for a mitre saw anyway.

The main niggle is the shadow light has to be manually switched on every time and it turns itself off if you leave it alone for any length of time.

I have the Milwaukee 18v 7 1/4" compound slider and it is great and only weighs 28 pounds, can be carried one handed.  Dust collection is good, better than typical, even with the bag but I usually use connected to my 18v Metabo vac.

I have the Makita LS0815F and like it.  Light but I wouldn't call it that compact given the slider.  I stuck it on a DeWalt stand and dust collection is passable.

I appreciate my accurate  Makita 7.5" slider. It's light weight is perfect for face frames and 1x6s etc.....
