Recon Tool is starting today (Cont. US Only)

I'm waiting for a 30% CXS. Should come Tuesday. Already got a 20% ets/125 that looked unused - only issue was scuff marks on the systainer.

I am still new to the site and most of you have dealt with Bob Marino on many occasions. I just wanted to say that I am extremely pleased to do business with him and if you have not purchased anything from his site, please do. The guy is quick to respond and I know items are drop shipped (recon) but I really feel that I am treated extremely well when I call and place an order or buy from his site. Thanks for the exceptional service you provide! Additionally, thanks to recon I have quite the shop going for a DIY hobby guy. My latest purchase was the 20% light. It is brand new for Pete's sake!

I have now ordered twice from Bob Marino. Both times the product was shipped immediately and I got it within a 2-day period. That is fast. He has always been helpful and given me great service. I will continue to do business with him as I need Festool supplies. The shipping is fast and, I believe, free. Can't beat that.

Thanks Festool and Bob! My sander looks perfect!! This should be an excellent compliment to my RO125 from last years sale.

Wow, I only got 1 sheet of paper on my refurbished RO90 :(

The quantity and type of abrasives can vary by tool, and even sometimes over time. I think the RO 90 usually comes with 1 sheet each of delta and round abrasive.

I received my reconditioned OF1400. It looks like someone returned it after dropping it, since there are a few scratches suggesting this.

The only problem is that the knob that locks the plunge mechanisms is bent. Does anyone know what type of of threaded rod this is? It seems like a quick fix for an otherwise excellent router so far.

I would return that router for repair or exchange.

While it might be as simple as you think, I'd want them to check spindle runout, base level, squareness of the base to the spindle, and probably a half dozen other things that they can do in a few minutes that you can't do at all - or at least not efficiently?

And not saying that you would be, but you don't have to be a jerk about it or anything to get it done. Just politely request to return it so that they can 're-recondition' it for you.

That's my [2cents] + [2cents] , adjusted for inflation.

Welcome to the forum.

Does the knob prevent the router from operating properly? Also, I would appreciate it if you could send photos of the knob for evaluation. I see that you purchased a 20% off OF 1400. Please note that our website describes a 20% off tool in the following way:

20% Discount Level - Slightly used tools. Original packaging with slight impairment (damaged, labeled and /or dirty).

Thanks,

Would a bent part like that really qualify under "damaged"? That seems like series damage compared to a scratch in the molding or something minor that qualifies as "damage". I'd by that kind of damage for 40-50% off, but not 20%.

There are different degrees of bent. There's barely noticeable all the way up to 90 degrees.  [eek]

So, without more information, I would be speculating on the condition of the knob at this point. Also, I'm not the guy responsible for classifying the condition of reconditioned tools. I have already brought this to the attention of my colleague and combined with some photos (hopefully) a determination will be made.

Let's get more facts before we pile on, please.  [wink]

At the risk of sticking my nose in FURTHER where it might not belong, here is my simple take on the matter:

1. Customer got a ReCon router and noticed a problem
2. Problem appears obvious - at least to customer
3. Problem is serious enough that it bothers the Customer, who is now trying to figure out how to fix it

The problem sounds like (to me, with limited information) something that should have been caught in the ReCon process - unless it happened after that, i.e. in shipping. Either way, I can't imagine that Festool intended to deliver a router to a customer in that condition? It just doesn't 'fit' who they are.

I probably overstepped my bounds with my suggestion above, so I'll shut up about what I think Festool should do. I will just say that my experience with Festool support has been excellent, so I have no reason to think they would be any different about this.

FWIW, I purchased a couple of items on the ReCOn sale and I am VERY happy with them.

Sorry, this kind of blew up, it is a really minor thing that I didn't notice until I was doing a test plunge with it. I don't care about scratches and dents, I know the game with buying recon. This is my first recon, all my previous festools have been bought new. I was looking to get a dedicated OF1400 with the intention of putting it into a CMS table, so a recon is perfect for living in a table.

I'm amazed that I had an email in my box from Shane already offering to make everything right. The spindle seems solid and tight. I haven't checked for square, but the plunge is nice and smooth, so it is a relatively minor issue. I was just going to pick up a new threaded rod from Grainger since it is a $1 part, but Shane will probably send me a new one. This type of service is why my new shop (after having sold off most of my old one due to a move) will be festool centric.

Here are images, it it is hard to see the bent rod due to the wide angle lens of my iPhone, just a few minor scratches. I am more than happy with the router.

Also, Shane is sending me a new handle free of charge, what fantastic service.

I know I will get a lot of negative feedback on this post, but . . . My advice to anyone who has a problem with a newly purchased tool, whether reconditioned or new - Contact Festool Service. The quickest responses I have gotten were a call to Service. They have always responded to me at the point of contact and I have not yet been dissatisified with the result. I did submit a post first for one unresolved issue. The suggestions I got were varied and I ended up contacting service anyway which is when it was resolved immediately.

Where I find the FOG excels is when you don't know how to use a tool feature, when you want suggestions on technique, when you need to find a jig solution or related product, or just plain old woodworking advice. That's where the amount of expertise availabie is unmatched on any other site I've gone to.

Thanks to all you guys for those contributions. While I've been woodworking for a long time, I have gotten great suggestions on technique several times since my first Festool purchase and that was only about a year ago.

Its ok, I just wish it came with a sample pack. I do not own any Festool sand paper, at the moment and really don't know what I will use, so I was hoping for some other different grits to try out.

I will say though the Ro90 is a good little sander.

You really can't go wrong with Granat on the RO 90.  Dream come true on most surfaces.  Paint, drywall, auto/metal, wood (finished or unfinished)

I buy them in bulk when i can.  I know I am not going to burn through them as fas as I get them, but they have a shelf life of forever and grits don't go down in price usually.
