RECON TOOL SALE - MORE THOUGHTS

The C15 at 40% was hard to pass up.  I knew the charger and battery are upgraded, but......

My shipping ticket said 5% on it and the tool, accessories and T-Lok are all mint.

Guys, the 5% on the packing list was a bug with our system. We don't even have reconditioned tools that are 5%. The tools for the 40% off are normally what we classify as 10, 20 or 30% off tools with the best condition tools going to the earliest orders.

My only issue is with what the dealers have had to put up with.  The long hours trying to help their customers both new and old get the tools.  Having to tell loyal customers that they can't help them right now and to try using another dealer.  Not sure what could be done to help with that they could limit the hours the dealers could order tools but then that just means they will have everyone calling at the same time just before the sale opens for the day.  The only other option I can think of would be to setup a web interface that would allow the process to be automated however that would seem difficult to do with so many different dealers running their own sites.  I am very thankful for the dealers that have gone above and beyond to help customers with this sale.  Now that I have the tools I will be ordering accessories for them from the dealer that I have been using during the sale.

I was already planning on ordering several tools but was planning on spreading it out over a few months buying recon when available I was going to start buying what was available at 30% off then work up to buying new when I got to the point of needing that tool.  I was going to place an order at 30% off when I found out about the 40% sale had already started.  I got lucky and was able to get a few tools during the sale.  I got a Planex I had thought about getting one since I have some drywall to do however I don't do enough drywall to justify the price however 40% off was enough to get me to order one.  I got it today and while I can tell it was used before it is still in great condition and I am very happy.  I have received a few other tools as well in various conditions from not being able to tell that it was used to yeah it was used and probably was listed at 30% off before.  The tools themselves are fully functional and I am happy with all of the tools I have received.  For the discount that I got I would gladly do it again.

My only complaint about the recon sale's is that were left in the dark here in canada.

I asked my local dealer about it, they basically just said it's not an option up here.

Bummed I can't get a midi or mini. Can't afford a $800 ct26. Oh well, I'll keep my eyes open on the used market.

...what changes, if any, would it take for you to purchase a recon tool at the 10 or 20 percent discount?

With Festool now charging tax in my state, I would only save about 2% by buying a 10% off tool compared to buying new from one of the many fine dealers here. Not at all worth it.

Then there's the 20% off, which ends up being about a 12% discount compared to what I could buy a new tool for. I doubt that I would even consider that, as the longer warranty is worth that much to me. IF the 20% off tool also had a 3-year warranty I *might* consider it.

That leaves the 30% off, which ends up being about a 22% discount compared to what I could buy a new tool for. I definitely WOULD consider that, depending on the tool.

Don't you have to pay tax on the new tools?

Typically if you order from an out of state dealer then you don't get charged sales tax.  I will leave the discussion on when you are supposed to self report purchases and pay sales tax to others.

Can someone remind me how the UPS shipping is working for the 40% recon sale? Tried searching but couldn't find the previous posts. Is there a reference number for tracking or do we only have info on when it actually left Festool for delivery?

Thanks

There's no way to know the tracking number until the label is printed to go on the shipping box.

When it ships, the dealer is notified by Festool and the dealer should pass on the tracking info' to the customer.

I just got my t15 4.2 set today.  Packaging was in great shape, i know some people had issues with ups.  The drill is awesome.  It looks great with only a couple skuffs.  I was really frustrated with bob marinos festool.  Everytime I called to order a tool I could get throught to talk to him, it just rang and went to his voice mail.  So after 2 missed opportunities of calling and the tool being gone I called Asheville Hardware in Nc and they promptly answer the phone and took my order it was fast and easy,  and the best part I got a like new t15 set 40% off.  I am new to the forum and have been a carpenter for years.  My first purchase was a Ro150 and after that i was hooked.  Tools are expensive but worth it.  Thanks Shane for the sale and Asheville Hardware for having an awesome sales team!!!!

I have not received any tracking info for my tools from the dealer or Festool.  However I have signed up for UPS My Choice and get notices about any delivers coming to my house so I don't need the tracking info.

Check out more Recon threads to gain a little more perspective on the dealers situation.

I just read more posts.  I see what you mean.  Hes a very busy man with the tool sale.  My frustration came seeing the tool on the blog and calling and not getting throught then the tool was gone.  This was an awesome sale and the good stuff went fast!!!

It's not over yet -

"Festool is discounting ALL RECON TOOLS - regardless of condition, to a flat 40% - effective 12 AM October 14 through November 14th."

New to Festool as of July.  Since getting the track saw I've bought probably $10k of tools and accessories, mostly new but also bought several refurbs.  Sometimes it makes more sense to buy new rather then refurb because once tax is added it's not worth giving up the extra 2 years of warranty that I get buying new without tax.

For the most part everything has gone off without a hitch.  However, my last refurb order (planner) was made a week ago and still hasn't shipped.  I know I got the item because the dealer I used verified that and the item I purchased stayed up for at least another 6+ hours afterward.

Anyone else having long delays in shipping?

I'm still waiting for a Fakir to ship.  The purchase was for a project in the future.  I'm not all that concerned because Festool has always come through.  [thumbs up]

For those of you who ordered from the reconditioned sale. About how long did it take to get you tools?

hi Tool an, typically about a week to a Week and a half. I live in NH and they come from Illinois

Thank you. I put an order in a week ago from today. And I was just curious. I guess I've been spoiled from my Amazon prime account.
