Hi JMB,

Here are some info's i found about the Milwaukee batteries from our Bro's at the Dewaltownersgroup:
Milwaukee Red Li Ion Battery comparison

kind regards, Mike

Hi!

Thank you! Nice comparison! I just gotta be weary with them Dewalt Fans cnt trust them! lol There is a improvement but not alot.  The thing is getting bit annoyed with my Milwaukee Impact M18I have had it changed 3 times or maybe 4 cnt remember now straight swap for a brand new one so thats good but all of them work great for about 6 months but then the Impact becomes stronger acting more like a hammer and knocks you of a screw and the RPM or something decreases as the screw takes twice as long to screw in. The moter is fine sounds the same and spins just as fast its like something inside the impact section wears or goes and it looses power to drive a screw in I need to send it back again just have not got round to doing it its been in my garage for months dont like using it when its like that.

Well looks like they do have a problem with the torque transfer then.. maybe you should get your money back, cause they cannot get it fixed.
...
For me the bottom line out the video comparison is - Milwaukee has no magic going on here with their red series of batteries, rather than using regular high power Samsung LiIOn cells, which are known to be sensitive for wearing and require balancing circuitry to charge the cells properly - something Festool is simply not requiring because of their well known Sony LiIon VT cells, which are widely know for their long term stability and robustness.
Festool is guarantees for 1+2 Years for the drill and the batteries, which is absolutely outstanding - because usually you get only limited guarantee of 6 month for the Battery.
Below is a diagram, which shows a typical Sony cell and it's simulated life time of 500 charge/discharge cycles at 90% or 1000 @ 70% discharge rate.
This shows clearly, why it's better to re-charge the LiION battery earlier, instead to wait until the operation dies.

kind regards, Mike

Yea, I know.  I don't know what's going on with them.  Maybe they follow the FOG and don't like my split loyalties.  So be it!  I know there was a big personnel shift there.  That's how my guy got moved from head of cordless to head of corded tools division.  I guess all I can say is test the tools yourself and make a comparison that way.  That's what I originally did and how I found Milwaukee on top, then turned over the test results to them.  Festool was not part of the test, if you were wondering as Festool didn't have the tools for an equal comparison here.

I saw the heated jacket the other day in person in a local tool shop.
It is quite a nice jacket, the fabric feels good, and mostly waterproof, pity it is made in China, but that is par for the course.
The Red color is nice and bright, I don't think it is really made for a rough jobsite, too nice and light duty for that, depends on the job I guess.
The price is around $200 Canadian for a jacket an M12 battery and a charger.

I did not get to try the heating.

Try the heating  let me know! Interested!

Lol

We will have to get someone to buy one of these and try the heat.

From what I see in the specs of where the heating pads are, they look small, one on the back, and two smaller ones on the front. For a London, UK type winter this will probably be ok for a few hours, but for Canadian this won't be enough for more than a few minutes. I saw a couple of roofers working on some new build houses this morning on the way to the office. It's -12C and the wind and snow is blowing hard, now that is a tough day on the job.

I can see the intended use to be more like wearing it to an outdoor/ night time sports event, or hockey game as spectator. It looks good, and it will keep that dew and condensation off your back.

If Festool made one, I might buy it.

Well, finally my Milwaukee guy called me earlier tonight from his house.  Between dealing with his daughter in the background and talking with me for at least a half an hour, he's probably drained like a battery  [big grin].  First we discussed the heated jacket everyone keeps talking about.  He and Milwaukee are in Wisconsin and he wears the jacket over a thermal type t-shirt and it keeps him plenty warm on the high setting.  He was telling me how the temps are around 10 F and the windchill makes it feel even lower.  When he wears it in a store, he turns it down to the low or medium setting.  He said it lasts him around 4 hours on the high setting.  There's no battery level indication on the jacket because that would have meant a higher cost, more bulk to the jacket and it would have prevented it from being washable.  Supposedly the Milwaukee logo changes color as the heat setting is changed so you know what level it's at.  It only comes in standard mens sizes, so women have to figure out there size off the mens, sorry.  It has elastic drawstrings to keep it snug to your body, but you don't want it too tight fitting.

As for the Red Lithium batteries, they are a little more powerful and last a little bit longer than the regular M line due to chemistry differences and a lower impedance of each cell.  He explained that the lower the cell's impedance, the greater the power and the longer it gives that power.  All of their batteries are made by Samsung as some previous information stated, however, Samsung sent engineers to Milwaukee to design the battery packs to their specifications.  They are the only power tool company to manufacture their own batteries from the cells to the case as Samsung actually has battery manufacturing within the Milwaukee manufacturing facility.  That gives them total control over the design and quality of the product.  They are the only power tool company that builds their own batteries from scratch because of this.

Oh and JMB, the day you had a problem getting on Milwaukee's website and I left him a message about that, he checked it out and found no problems.  He feels it might have been an issue with your service provider.

Yeah Nick (Rex crystals) just recently went on  a ''holliday''  to have a look at these new Lithiums and he said they showed him some test or something I was to busy to talk 2 him at the time so didnt get the full story!  Well all I can remember was him sayin these Milwaukee jackets are really nice lovely and warm with the 12v battery you must have one ill do you a good price. His sales tactic to me was they are that nice you would wear one for causal use like going out into town!

HAHAHAHAHAH lol Bright RED I dont think so!  For site/working it looks like a nice jacket but for going out umm I would have to try one on first to see if red suites me lol
