Regular Guide Rail the same as LR 32

Is the regular guide rail the same as the LR 32 guide rail (except for the holes)?  If so I assume you can kill two birds with one stone - no?

Festool now offers the 55 inch rail with the LR32 holes in it.  That was not always the case.  The old LR32 short rail was less than 55 inches.

If you are in the market for a 55 inch rail, spend the little bit extra for the one with holes in case you get the LR 32 system.
