Has anyone removed the top of a SYS3 Tool Box? I need a 187 height version but they only sell a 137 and 237. My plan is to take the top off my 137 and swap with the lid of a normal SYS3 187. I can see that the "hinge side" pins will just pop out but those on the front side are an unknown and I don't want to destroy it.

Can you post pictures of the removal when you do it? And the finished product?
Thanks.

This is an interesting idea.  I hadn't thought to look deep enough if this mod could be done.  Wouldn't be surprised if it can!

I have successfully removed the top of the SYS3 Tool Box. I didn't have a set of suitable pliers to pull out the front pins so I took a different approach. The attached photo should explain it. 3mm hole drilled in the end of the pin, screw in a nice long screw by a couple of threads, place a pair of pliers under the screw head and one good tap with a hammer pops out the pin. The rear edge hinge pins are just accessible enough to be able to pop out with a hammer blow to their rear. You need to pop the T-Loc off as it doesn't rotate fully and then "opening" the lid pops the rear centre connection/hinge thing. The fixed front handle prises out with a screwdriver inserted as per the second photo. The new SYS3 187 arrives tomorrow so I'll let you know how the transfer goes.

The transformation is complete. Removing the lid from the SYS3 187 needs nothing more than knocking out the hinge pins from the inside and fitting the tool box lid is a simple re-assembly. Removing the folding front handle from the 187 is easy to do with a gentle pry at the side with a screwdriver and re-fitting is just clicking it back into place. I now have a 187 Tool Box which is a much more useful depth than the donor 137 and fits in the storage space I have that was too small for a 237.[attachimg=1]

Nice work!  Way to work outside the (tool)box?  Or is it inside the box?  I don't know, but I'm glad you took the plunge, built what you needed and shared the process here.  Thank you.

Great way to create a new size(s) !  [thumbs up]
