Replacing interior window trim: Extension jamb or window stops

Hi!

We are getting new replacement windows with wood interior (yay). No vinyl. I would like to replace all of our window trim at the same time. My question is whether I should use extension jambs or window stops?

Here is my limited understanding:
- Standard window trim would use extension jambs mostly covered by the casing with a small 1/8'' reveal.
- Window stops are normally used when replacement windows are installed so that the interior window trim can remain in place during the window install and the window is easily serviceable.

My tendency would be to go with extension jambs. Is this basically a no-go for replacement windows? Am I missing anything?

Thanks!

It's going to look cleaner to re-trim your replacement windows with new jamb extensions since they probably won't line up exactly with where the old ones were. Depends on your budget though.

I’ve always installed jamb extensions, it produces a cleaner look and it’s not that much more work.
