[member=57769]TylerC[/member] Copy of note that I sent through the Festool website:

"I'm a fiercely loyal Festool customer, with 23 systainers worth of tools and accessories, not to mention a CT, Kapex and MFT.  I mention these numbers not to assert some sense of entitlement, but merely to identify myself as someone who really believes in the systems approach that Festool offers, where each additional tools integrates well into the arsenal one has already established, creating an economy of scale that not only boosts productivity but also results in cost savings over the longer term.  So as someone already heavily invested in the 18V battery platform in particular, I am really disappointed to see that you guys are not offering a Basic package that includes just the HKC55 and FSK rail (w/out batteries or charger).  It was one thing not to have this option when the TSC55 was released -- there were plenty of us who already had rails, so it was fine just to get the Basic saw.  But the HKC obviously has a different rail standard, so we are forced to purchase the rail separately and lose out on any discount one normally gets from these packages.  The fact that you are offering a saw + rail package for the corded HK55 makes the lack of such option for the HKC doubly curious.  I realize the cost difference is not huge in the context of what many of us have spent on Festools, but it feels like a snub to those customers who have made Festool their primary set of woodworking tools, and who regularly promote the brand to others with the promise of the cost savings of the systems approach.

I hope you will reconsider the packages for the HK(C) and add one that includes the bare saw and the rail. "

[size=13pt]I admire your have a go attitude here Edward, but what you are asking, though it certainly has merit, is not available to my knowledge in any other Festool market.

Still you are in the US, the only country with quasi Imperial Festools!  [eek]

Mmmm, don't think I was attacking the US here [member=7659]waho6o9[/member] , [well not this time  [smile]]; Festool US maybe, but not the country.

The point I was making was that given the size of the US market for Festool, anything might be possible. As was the case with the recent release of quasi imperial tools. And that I admired Edward for his gumption at having a go on this issue!

Don't bother [member=19746]Untidy Shop[/member] .. In space nobody can hear you making an intelligent statement [wink] [big grin]

No worries, none taken.  I'll let Michael Phelps do the talking when it come to US-Aussie comparisons  [tongue]

I hear your frustration, and I've passed the request along to the product management team.

Between the two machines, three guide rails and batteries, there are 12 (I think) possible combinations, and there are only so many combinations that can be managed without it getting unnecessarily complicated for everyone -- dealers, customers, shipping, accounting, etc. Because the HK/C has been available in other countries for a while, I'm assuming that the options available are what have proven to be most popular globally.

All that said, I certainly get with the concern. I'll let you know what I hear.

Just a recommendation to handle this. Rather than have these pre-bundled kits, administer it through incentives to dealers and customers on the individual components.

A simple example with fictitious prices:

Buy just the saw, pay $400.
Buy just the rail, pay $100.
Buy just the batteries, pay $65/ea.
Buy just the charger, pay $65.

Now... start bundling and save.

Buy a saw + rail, save 15% on the rail, pay $485.
Buy a saw + 2 batteries, save 10% on the batteries, pay $515.
Buy a saw + 2 batteries + charger, save 15% on the batteries/charger, pay $565.
Buy a saw + 2 batteries + rail, save 20% on rail/batteries/charger, pay $635.

Those are arbitrary savings just to illustrate the idea.

This gives Festool and dealers the maximum flexibility in their inventories, the fewest number of SKUs to administer, etc. It makes the savings more obvious to customers and gives them more incentive to buy more. And, there's already a precedent on these types of savings with package deals. Plus this is what's already being done with the pre-bundled kits, but the savings are less obvious at a glance.

I don't like having 12 variations on our website. It's confusing to customers. With this recommendation, there would be two saws shown: the corded and the cordless, each with various options to add on rails, batteries and charger. Keep it simple, Hicks Law. I suspect you'll see an increase in sales just from the simplification. Plus, the global reduction in inventory holding costs will make your bean counters happy. And, your warehouse will enjoy the freeing up of pick locations with fewer SKUs.

And, this solves the issue of not offering existing cordless customers an option of just the saw + rail. [wink]

For your consideration. Thanks.  [smile]

I also like that idea a lot... [not worthy] [not worthy]

As an example, I was on the ToolNut website specifically trying to find a HKC with only a rail. I found one....no wait, that's an HK with a rail, what happened to the HKC's?...or here they are but this one doesn't have batteries...and this is a HK by itself...you get the idea. [crying] [crying]

What a mess to try to sort out especially for some of us aging children  [eek] Also, as you pointed out, the cost savings are not readily apparent so I usually have to go through it and do the math.

I felt as you did when I was first looking into the HKC.  Once i realized the stock packaged rail only had 9.5" cutting capacity I quickly changed my game plan.  I feel a larger rail is going to be a necessity so why spend the extra money on the mini-me rail?  Just my 0.02.
