Review of the Festool Rotex 90, RO 90 DX sander

I would have so used my 150 on that window and stairs, and clean up with the Deltex, would be finished way quicker.

the 150 will certainly remove wood faster, especially in aggressive mode. probably 4 to 5 times faster.
until you try to get in a narrow spot.

the deltex was on the "to be purchased" que, till this came out. this works pretty nice as a replacement for
the deltex. did a floor the other day that had an aluminum edging all around it, for the carpet surrounding
the parquet.... about 80' of it total. put the triangular pad on, with some 40 grit, and offset the pad maybe
1/16" into the side i was cutting with, and snuggled that up to the aluminum, so it removed the finish build
up under the aluminum, without chewing up the aluminum.... took about 15 minutes to do the edge, and
the corners, so a 150 could clean it up.

It is painful watching you guys sand stairs with these rotexes.
Knowing that you could sand the whole set of stairs in that time with a floor edger  [blink]

Sure, when you own an edger. [blink] BTW, it's painful for me to watch flooring guys do carpentry. [tongue] [big grin]

Hahaha. I actually started in construction as a finish carpenter for 5 years. So I'm not so bad at working on that one piece of trim for the day  [wink]

And you won't see one trace of an edger on my jobs. Even stain jobs.
As far as the scraper.....yes it's faster with a scraper, but after getting finish, or paint off I use the ro90 to smooth any digs.
On new steps the delta is awesome for the corners!

Brice,
very nice review.
Can you tell me what sanding paper and grain did you use for the stair treads?

Nico

Sorry, I missed this question earlier.  I used the 60 grit Granat abrasives for both the round and delta.

Are you experiencing any issues with the foam flying off the extended delta?

I cant seem to get the foam to stick that well to the extended delta. I actually wondered if they were meant to be used together.

I had that same issue, I thought it was the fairly worn out foam backing pad I was using.  I'll have to try it with a new backing pad.

With foam, do you mean this part?

Because that one is not meant for the extended pad. It will only stick good if you can lock it in place with the push button. In fact, the push button sticks out a bit on the machine side, so if you try to mount it on a flat surface it will diminish the pad's grip.

nice revieuw!
just one remark, those louvre slats and rail and stile interior sides should have been sanded before assembly with a normal sander, just like you would sand a panel before assembling a door!

it shows the delta pad can do it, but it's an enormous loss of time if you ask me :p

I knew this would come up and I thought about addressing in the review. [unsure]  Of course you'd sand as much as possible before assembly.  In fact, that's what I did, I didn't really need to sand the slats but I did give them a quick once over for the camera.  Think of my photos as more for illustration purposes of what the delta do if needed.  I hope no one feels like I'm trying to pull a fast one here.  I have used the extended delta pad with the RO90 and even more with my old Deltex, it works just as "illustrated" in the photo.

Yeah I tried it with both being brand new!
Seems w/o pad the Velcro will wear fast, but pad doesn't stay on.
